في "هبة الأيام" قد بنى يوسف البديعي كلامه على شرحٍ لحياة الشاعر الخالد أبي تمام. فعرض على القارئ بُردًا يمانيًّا كثير الطرائق، مُطرز الحواشي. فهو إذا ذكر عن أبي تمام شهرته بقوة الحفظ، عرض لكثير ممن عُرفوا بهذه المنقبة. فروى من أخبارهم، ما يروي صدى المتأدِّب، وهو إذا ذكر لك أن أبا تمام مدح أحمد بن أبي دؤاد مثلًا، عرَّج على حياة هذا الممدوح، فجلاها للقارئ بما لا يترك في نفسه بقية من حاجة إلى مثل ما يحتاج إليه الأديب في مثل هذا المقام، وإذا مرَّ بمعنى تناوله الشعراء، سرد من أقوالهم فيه ما يشبع نَهْمَة النَّهِم من طلاب الأدب، وإذا أشار الشاعر إلى حادثة أو آبدة من أوابد العرب، أفاض في شرحها فملأ ذهنك بالعلم الغزير، يسوقه في مناسباته. وهذه الطريقة في رأي علماء التربية، خير الطرق في ثبات المعلومات في الذهن وأدعاها إلى امتزاجها بالنفسMostra libro
