Summary

The Business Plan is an essential tool for attracting an investor’s attention. They receive hundreds of plans every week and spend no more than ten minutes on each one before deciding if it is of further interest. This means that the plan needs to be a short, snappy document that conveys the facts about your business quickly and clearly.
This 3 Steps to Success Guide is a digest of David Bateman’s hugely acclaimed Business Plans that Get Investment and provides the basic steps for how to write a plan that has the information that an investor needs to see. It shows that it is a simple process that anyone can do it, irrespective of background or prior knowledge, to turn those ten minutes of attention into investment.

It is well known that the Danes have a fantastic work-life balance, that working late is discouraged, parental leave is split equally, and long summer holidays are the norm. They even have a word meaning "happiness at work"—arbejdsglæde. Meanwhile, the rest of the western world is struggling with a burn-out epidemic—but where are we going wrong? Based on a new study from the Happiness Research Institute, Meik Wiking reveals the main factors that build happiness at work—purpose, trust, relationships, balance, and more—to show how we can reduce stress, increase productivity, and find fulfillment, both in and out of work.

Its not easy to be a manager. With growing resource constraints, relentless change, and high turnover, todays business climate poses many difficulties, but most managers point to the same greatest challenge: time. Daily crises require immediate attention, managers must drop everything to resolve the issue, they fall behind on their workand then another crisis takes over the next day. How can anyone find the time to manage? In truth, time isnt the problem, but the solution. Fire-fighting is a symptom of undermanagement, and all managers must rise to the challenge of maintaining regular and meaningful dialogue with each direct report. This does not mean more emails or pointless meetings, but highly structured, highly substantive communication. The very best managers hold ongoing one-on-one conversations that make expectations clear, track performance and offer feedback, provide guidance and direction, hold people accountable, and reward top performance. Based on twenty years of consulting with hundreds of thousands of managers, Bruce Tulgan shows any manager how to master the fundamental practice of effective management. For every challengeeven the most difficultrelentless high-quality communication is the best solution, and The 27 Challenges Managers Face shows how to tailor conversations to solve specific problems. Managers will learn specific approaches for issues including bad attitudes, friction and conflict, low performers who need to go the extra mile, top performers you want to keep and develop as leaders, and many more. By making effective ongoing conversations an ingrained part of their routine, managers will boost performance of their whole teamand make their own job easier. The 27 Challenges Managers Face is an indispensable back-to-basics resource for managers at all levels.

With respect to finger counting among civilized peoples, we fail, then, to find any universal law; the most that can be said is that more begin with the little finger than with the thumb. But when we proceed to the study of this slight but important particular among savages, we find them employing a certain order of succession with such substantial uniformity that the conclusion is inevitable that there must lie back of this some well-defined reason, or perhaps instinct, which guides them in their choice. This instinct is undoubtedly the outgrowth of the almost universal right-handedness of the human race. In finger counting, whether among children or adults, the beginning is made on the left hand, except in the case of left-handed individuals; and even then the start is almost as likely to be on the left hand as on the right. Savage tribes, as might be expected, begin with the left hand. Not only is this custom almost invariable, when tribes as a whole are considered, but the little finger is nearly always called into requisition first. To account for this uniformity, Lieutenant Gushing gives the following theory,10 which is well considered, and is based on the results of careful study and observation among the Zuñi Indians of the Southwest: “Primitive man when abroad never lightly quit hold of his weapons. If he wanted to count, he did as the Zuñi afield does to-day; he tucked his instrument under his left arm, thus constraining the latter, but leaving the right hand free, that he might check off with it the fingers of the rigidly elevated left hand.

Vividly reminiscent of the goings-on at Sterling Cooper—the late nights, the three-martini lunches, the sex on couches, and, of course, the actual work of plugging products—this is the story of what Madison Avenue was really like in the 1960s. A worldwide bestseller when first published in 1970, this frank, irreverent, and hilarious memoir is a one-of-a-kind cult classic.
