  تعتبر قصائد هذا الديوان، مثالاً واضحاً تتجلى فيه عظمة الحب وتجليّاته الجميلة، إذ أن القصائد الشعرية التي الفها أحمد زكي أبو شادي في هذا الديوان، تعتبر ملحمةً يعبر فيها الشاعر عن عمق بؤسه ومأساته التي تدور في وجدانه كشاعرٍ مرهف الإحساس، إذ يوحد بين هذا الوجدان وبين واقع الحياة الطبيعية التي تتميز بالسحر والجمال، لتكون ملهمةً له، ومانحةً لطاقة الجمال والحب، فالشّاعر يعطي في قصائده هذه ألحاناً وليس مجرد كلمات، فيحول القصيدة إلى أوتارٍ يعزف عليها شعره الشجيّ، فجميعُ القصائد التي ضمنها الشاعر في هذا الديوان، تعبر عن قمة العشق والصبابة، وقمة المعاناة التي يعيشها الشاعر في حياته، ةإذ أن الحياة بخلت عليه حتى بطيف حبيبته "زينب"، التي كتب إهداء هذا الديوان لها، والجدير بالذكر أن بعض القصائد قد طبعها الشاعر بطابع المناسبات، فظَهرت فيها شاعرية الألفاظ المتدفقة من شاعرية الشاعر نفسه، وأحاسيسه المرهفة، فيشعر من يقرأ هذا الديوان أن الشاعر اختار قصائده ليضع فيها كلماته التي تعبر عن قمة الألم في الحب، ليظهر لنا فعلاً حقيقة أن الشعر هو ترجمة للوجدان.
