Why is this happening? How do you care for yourself and your family? If you are struggling with a loved one’s addiction you are not alone. A compassionate resource for anyone stuck between a rock and a hard place.
When Rev. Nathan Detering shared the story of his brother’s death from a drug overdose with the members of his congregation, many of them shared their own addiction stories with him. Realizing the healing power of sharing stories and questions in community, Rev. Detering conducted interviews to identify and address the common questions that haunt us when we love someone with addiction. In conversations both within and outside his community, he heard the palpable need for those struggling with a loved one’s addictions to know they are not alone.
Weaving together his own and others’ deeply felt experiences of addiction, Why Can’t I Fix It? responds to sometimes desperate questions such as: Why is this happening? What can you do? What can’t you do? How do you care for yourself and the rest of your family? Can you trust your community to support you and your family? While the answers to these questions aren’t easily found, Why Can’t I Fix It? encourages those of us who are struggling with a loved one’s addictions to practice self-care and self-compassion, understand the cultural context for emotional responses and expectations of ourselves and others, and reach out for support.

Unlock the more straightforward side of The Master and Margarita with this concise and insightful summary and analysis! This engaging summary presents an analysis of The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, which is widely considered to the author's masterpiece and one of the finest novels of the 20th century. Through three interwoven narrative strands, namely Pontius Pilate's persecution of the man who would later be known as Jesus Christ, a love story set in Moscow in the 1930s and the Devil's visit to that city, the novel delivers biting satire and explores weighty themes such as the interplay between good and evil and the importance of spiritual and intellectual freedom. Due to pervasive censorship in the Soviet Union, the novel was not published until almost 30 years after its author's death, and is now the work on which his reputation rests. Indeed, although Bulgakov died in poverty and obscurity, his writing now enjoys popular and critical acclaim around the world.Find out everything you need to know about The Master and Margarita in a fraction of the time! This in-depth and informative reading guide brings you:• A complete plot summary• Character studies• Key themes and symbols• Questions for further reflectionWhy choose BrightSummaries.com?Available in print and digital format, our publications are designed to accompany you on your reading journey. How School Makes Kids Stupid -...

Education is supposed to be the foundation of knowledge, personal growth, and future success. However, the modern school system has become a rigid, outdated structure that often fails to serve its true purpose. Instead of fostering curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking, it enforces memorization, conformity, and a narrow definition of intelligence. The system was designed for an industrial era that no longer exists, yet it continues to shape young minds in ways that leave them unprepared for the real world.
The purpose of education has shifted drastically over time. Originally, learning was a means of survival and personal development, allowing individuals to acquire skills and knowledge relevant to their environment. With the rise of industrialization, schools were structured to produce disciplined, obedient workers rather than innovative thinkers. Today, that outdated model remains largely intact. Instead of adapting to the needs of a rapidly changing world, schools continue to prioritize standardization over flexibility, forcing students into a one-size-fits-all system that often stifles their potential.
At the core of this broken system is an overemphasis on memorization rather than true understanding. Students are expected to absorb and regurgitate information for tests, only to forget most of it shortly after. Critical thinking and problem-solving take a backseat to rote learning, leaving students ill-equipped to navigate complex real-world challenges. The grading system further reinforces this problem, reducing learning to a numbers game where students are judged by their ability to recall facts rather than their capacity for deep thinking.
