  What does it mean to fight for a 'mother country' that refuses to accept you as one of its own? Britain's First World War poets changed the way we view military conflict and had a deep impact on the national psyche. Yet the stories of the 15,600 volunteers who signed up to the British West Indian Regiment remain largely unknown. Sadly, these citizens of empire were not embraced as compatriots on an equal footing. Instead they faced prejudice, injustice and discrimination while being confined to menial and auxiliary work, regardless of rank or status.
  As a collaborative project, co-commissioned by 14-18 NOW, BBC Contains Strong Language and the British Council, Unwritten Poemsinvited contemporary Caribbean and Caribbean diaspora poets to write into that vexed space, and explore the nature of war and humanity – as it exists now, and at a time when Britain's colonial ambitions were still at a peak. Unwritten: Caribbean Poems After the First World Waris a result of that provocation and also includes new material written for broadcast and live performance.

We challenged our readers to find any short works which had 'five' in the title - in any language. They have done us proud, and the collection extends to three volumes of short stories, poems, fairy tales, memoirs, non-fiction and bible readings, in six languages.  This is the second volume.   This 1924 poem/recipe book, designed as promotional material for the Royal Baking Powder Company, is set in the Oz community of Bunbury. Little Billy, who won't eat, is taken to the delicious kingdom Bunbury by King Hun Bun to help whet his appetite. Meanwhile, the King leaves the boy's mother with a recipe book for treats, made easy by the use of Price's Baking Powder.Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, though neither her name, nor the illustrator’s (Gertrude Kay) appears on the book.   Audacious: Thriving Through Trauma, highlights Doreen’s amazing journey by narrating her inner thoughts in poetic prose. In her writings, she also honours 20 women who have assisted her as she supported them. It is a book that will encourage women to think about their lives, enabling them to inspire and empower themselves and others. Doreen was very young when she lost her mother and for nearly 45 years she experienced trauma that led to many painful situations. Having cancer led her to retire early from her career.  She became an ordained minister as well as a public speaker whilst on the road to recovery.  She has supported many females of all ages across diverse backgrounds and cultures who have experienced losing their mother and bridging the generation gap of the missing pieces as they required as a mother figure.Doreen has survived and thrived through trauma and now wants to help others achieve their freedom towards a healthy, wealthy state of wellbeing to achieve their goals.
