“For twelve years, others have tried to tell our story. Others have tried to put into words how two ten-year-old twins came to be called the biggest pop phenomenon in the Nordics. Now it’s our turn.”
Sold-out concerts, prestigious awards and screaming fans were everyday life for Marcus and Martinus for many years, but just as they were about to embark on their first world tour, everything they had built came crashing down. As the Covid-19 pandemic spread, the twin brothers found themselves isolated in their hometown, forced to face their first major crisis. While the situation gave them a rare opportunity to live a normal life, one question gnawed at them: Would their audience welcome them back — this time as adult artists?
For the first time, Marcus and Martinus share the darker side of growing up in the spotlight, the crash that threatened to destroy everything they had worked for, and the challenges of finding their own voices after always being seen as one half of a duo.
Marcus & Martinus burst onto the international music scene in 2012 and have since continued to captivate audiences with their charismatic performances. With millions of followers worldwide and over a billion streams, the Norwegian duo has sold out arenas across Scandinavia.
Frida Söderlund is a journalist and author.

This fascinating and inspiring biography of John Haynes – the man behind Haynes manuals – looks ‘under the bonnet’ at his extraordinary life, and his legacy to the motoring world. This is the story of how one man’s vision and enthusiasm gave a small enterprise in rural Somerset a global footprint. The story begins with John’s childhood in Ceylon and his school days – when as a young entrepreneur he sowed the seeds for what would become the iconic Haynes car repair manuals – to his time as a young RAF officer, and then as the driving force behind the growth of the iconic Haynes brand and the Haynes International Motor Museum. Family and friends recount the many adventures and experiences of living, socialising and working with John throughout his life – which more often than not revolved around his passion for all things automotive.

John’s legacy to motoring is summed up in a tribute from Practical Classics Editor Danny Hopkins: “John Haynes’ immense contribution is multi-faceted and his legacy is permanent. John’s extraordinary gift to the owners of all cars, classic and modern… facilitating their ability to be self-sufficient cannot be overstated. The Haynes manual is an icon… just like many of the cars, planes, ships and trains it taught us how to repair. John’s life in cars has also left us with another legacy. His creation of one of the world’s most exciting car collections, a collection he so generously shared with the nation at the Haynes International Motor Museum: it is his passion made metal.”

“If you grew up in the era when cars and motorbikes were unreliable, John Haynes was the Messiah.” JAMES MAY

    Frontline Bodies - Sports and...

In Frontline Bodies, Nicolas Martin-Breteau argues that sports are not—and have never been—purely about entertainment for Black Americans. Instead, beginning in the 1890s during Reconstruction, Black Americans proactively used athletics as a tactic to fight racial oppression.

Martin-Breteau considers the work of Edwin B. Henderson, a prominent Black physical educator, civil rights activist, and historian of Black sports. Training Black children as athletes, Henderson felt, would work both to fortify racial pride and to dismantle racial prejudices—two necessary requirements for a successful political liberation struggle. In this way, physical education became political education.

By the end of the twentieth century, Martin-Breteau argues, racial uplift through sports had lost its emancipating power. The emphasis on the accumulation of wealth for professional athletes, as well as sports' ability to reinforce anti-Black stereotypes, had become a political problem for true collective liberation. For a marginalized group of people that has been physically excluded from the democratic process, however, sports remain a political resource. By studying the relationship between athletics and politics, Frontline Bodies renews the history of minority bodies and their power of action.
