Exploring My Limits is a W. F. Howes Audio Original, written and recorded by Dwayne Fields: adventurer, explorer, presenter and the first black British person to reach the magnetic north pole.

As a young child in wild Jamaica, Dwayne Fields loved both nature and wildlife. Yet after moving to the UK at the age of six, his formative years were in the concrete jungle of inner-city London, where he became a victim of both knife and gun crime. In 2010, following a life-threatening incident, Dwayne made the decision to change his path, and his life, forever.

Dwayne set himself the challenge of becoming the first black British person to reach the magnetic North Pole. Upon doing so he was invited to Buckingham Palace, joining other polar explorers and adventurers at a reception to mark the centenary of Scott’s expedition to the South Pole.

His drive to engage and enthuse a new generation with our natural spaces, the climate challenges we face, and adventure, have led to Dwayne working on a variety of projects with household names such as Will Smith, Bear Grylls, Ellie Simons and Tim Peak. He is dedicated to inspiring young, underprivileged people to explore the ‘great outdoors’ – and in doing so push past society’s expectations of them and smash their own self-imposed boundaries.
In a series of frank and insightful conversations – with people ranging from fellow mould-breakers to world-famous explorers – Dwayne questions where those limits are, why they are in place, and what we can do to break them down in order to improve and change lives.

    Dwayne speaks to:
    •	Adebayo Akinfenwa – a professional footballer told he was ‘the wrong size’ to ever make it
    •	Ben Fogle – the renowned explorer talks about the importance of being out in nature
    •	Maya-Rose Craig (aka Birdgirl) – the British-Bangladeshi ornithologist and author talks about her VME initiative Black2Nature and growing up not seeing ‘faces like mine’
Plus more people he has encountered in his journey to inspire underprivileged youth to transform their lives.

    About the author
Dwayne Fields is an acclaimed explorer and the UK’s Chief Scout. Amongst other accolades, Dwayne’s TV series Endurance: Race to the Pole with Ben Fogle was nominated in the 2024 BAFTA awards, and Dwayne has been awarded the City of London’s highest honour, ‘The Freedom of the City of London’ by the Lord Mayor for his work with young people.

December 11, 1936. The King of England, Edward VIII, has given up his crown, foregoing his duty for the love of Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée. Their courtship has been dogged by controversy and scandal, but with Edward's abdication, they can live happily ever after.

But do they? This is a story of a royal shut out by his family and forced into exile; of the Nazi attempts to recruit the duke to their cause; and of why the duke, as Governor of the Bahamas, tried to shut down the investigation into the murder of a close friend. It is a story of a couple obsessed with their status, financially exploiting their position, all the while manipulating the media to portray themselves as victims.

The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were, in their day, the most glamorous exiles in the world, flitting from sumptuously appointed mansions in the south of France to luxurious residences in Palm Beach. But they were spoiled, selfish people, obsessed with their image, and reveling in adulterous affairs. Drawing upon previously unexplored archives, Lownie shows in dramatic fashion how their glittering world was riddled with treachery and betrayal—and why the royal family never forgave the duke for choosing love over duty

Phillimon Zongo got his first pair of shoes at 12 and moved out to rent at 14. His dilapidated room had no electricity, no running water, no windows, and had a makeshift unlockable door. Two of the township’s toughest prostitutes occupied the two adjoining rooms. Most Friday nights, he ran back home, 23 kilometres away, and ran back to school on Monday mornings.
In 1994, on the cusp of dropping out of school because he could not afford the fees, a benevolent German took a bet on him. She gave him one of life’s greatest gifts – a chance to pursue his boundless potential. Despite countless obstacles, Zongo never entertained self-pity. He topped his class and became the first to graduate from university in his family.
Zongo migrated to Australia in 2007, armed with $300 and boundless ambition. But the deeply rooted belief that his odds to succeed in Australia as a young African were wafer-thin proved all too-crushing. In 2011, he sold everything and returned to Zimbabwe.
But a strange twist of fate forced Zongo to return to Australia in 2012. A mindset shift ignited a whirlwind run of success. Zongo published a bestselling book, won multiple global awards, co-founded the Cyber Leadership Institute, and keynoted events alongside the former Head of FBI cyber-crime division.
This poignant, hilarious and impeccably written memoir – spanning Savannah grasslands, Harare ghettos, Australia and beyond – proves the remarkable power of education and grit to defeat poverty and despair.

What it means to be a good person and what it takes to be a success. It all seemed so simple, until she realized the challenges she would have to face to prove to herself who she wanted to be. From feeling alienated to having to restart her career after ten years in to becoming a single mother just months after her son was born—everything she worked for in life that she felt granted her what she wanted now also reminded her that “life is going to life” and throw curveballs regardless of what you deserve. She found herself asking, Where do I find my power? How do I master myself? In her own raw and intimate voice, Keke talks about everything from her struggles with boundaries to unconditional love, forgiveness, and worthiness. “Don’t block your blessings and potential opportunities by allowing the voices of other people to influence your actions,” she says. “How you’re choosing to set yourself up for success is between you and the person looking back at you in the mirror.”Throughout the book, Keke also poses listeners with the questions needed to get them through their own challenging times by sharing personal stories and lessons she’s learned along the way. She gets candid about the tools she’s developed to take the reins, harness her vulnerability, and recognize ownership in the narrative of her life—which allowed her to turn personal power into major power. In this exhilarating, deeply poignant, and often laugh-out-loud book, Lauren Keyana Palmer gets real about life, work, love, and belief. These pages will encourage readers to empower themselves with the truth, leverage their currency, and find the keys to master themselves and the art of alchemy. Keke writes, “You are not on anyone else’s timeline, only your own.”The result is a tour de force. They said, “Jack of all Trades, Master of None.”She said, “No, I am the Master. Twelve American women serving in the military share their gripping personal stories of combat in Iraq. In Iraq, the front lines are everywhere—and everywhere in Iraq, no matter what their job descriptions say, women in the U.S. military are fighting. More than 155,000 of them have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003—four times the number of women sent to Desert Storm in 1991. More than 430 have been wounded and over seventy killed—almost twice the number of American women killed in action in Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm combined. But should women be in combat? Do they have what it takes to be warriors? Compelling questions once, but now empty because, more than ever, American women are in combat, and they are warriors. The real question is: What are their experiences of war? We haven’t heard their stories—until now. Band of Sisters presents a dozen groundbreaking and often heart-wrenching stories of American women in combat in Iraq, such as the U.S.’s first female pilot to be shot down and survive, the military’s first black female pilot in combat, a young turret gunner defending convoys, and a nurse struggling to save lives, including her own. As one female service member said, “We love our country as much as any man, and we have made the same sacrifices as our brothers in arms.” Band of Sisters reveals those sacrifices for the first time. Praise for Band of SistersWinner of the 2007 American Authors Association Golden Quill AwardWinner of the 2007 Military Writers Society of America Founder's Award“An insightful, intimate portrait of America’s fighting women in Iraq. For almost half a century, Bertram Mills Circus was a household name throughout Britain among both children and adults and it's Director, Cyril Bertram Mills, was one of the best-known and most influential names in the country's entertainment business.
But for forty years, Cyril Mills had also enjoyed a top-secret and wide-ranging career in British intelligence: obtaining the best aerial intelligence on Nazi rearmament for MI6 before the Second World War; becoming the first case officer to monitor the best double agent (Garbo) of the war after joining MI5; and working part-time during the Cold War 'for MI5 or 6 or both without being paid a penny'.
Remarkably, no word of Mills's secret career appeared in public until he was over eighty. Nobody suspected that the glamorous world of pre-war circus entertainment had been an extraordinarily fitting rehearsal for the lethal arena of deception and surveillance. In this remarkable true story, Christopher Andrew, best-selling official biographer of MI5, brings to life one of the most surprising and fascinating tales of espionage ever told.
