Summary

‘The Keys to Downing Street’ is an utterly unique guide to British General Elections, offering a refreshingly penetrating insight into how our democracy works.

The book is both a history book, graphically bringing to life the political history of the United Kingdom since 1945, and a guide to forecasting our political future. It is an adaptation of Professor Alan Lichtman’s brilliant American Presidential forecasting method to the UK political system. Lichtman’s ‘Keys’ have correctly forecast every US Presidential election since 1984, and now, with his kind permission, the wisdom of his methodology is now shedding light on the political process this side of the pond.

Although the unexpected return of Nigel Farage to the forefront of British politics during the 2024 campaign, came too late to be incorporated into the forecast for the 2024 election, the author did publicise an updated forecast in the days before the poll. He predicted a Labour majority of 170 – they actually got one of 174!

One Day University presents a series of audio lectures recorded in real-time from some of the top minds in the United States. Given by award-winning professors and experts in their field, these recorded lectures dive deep into the worlds of religion, government, literature, and social justice. The Founding Fathers likely could not have ever imagined the Supreme Court becoming one of the most powerful policymaking institutions in the United States. Yet today, the Court has the power to sidestep public opinion, upend federal legislation, constrain state governance, and even bring down the President. Professor Gash will demonstrate why the Court's makeup can make or break American public policy. She will also discuss in detail the recent hard-fought confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and whether the politics of Kavanaugh's and other recent Court nominations may well end up eroding the "checking" capacity of the Court. Professor Gash will discuss the Kavanaugh nomination within the context of increasing partisan discord over Supreme Court nominations. She will also touch on the implications of this increased partisanship on the Court's ability to "put politics aside" when adjudicating over specific cases or upholding "the rule of law". To what degree will this be damaged if Court nominations and nominees become vulnerable to the same partisan strife that characterizes the political world? If that happens, who will check politics? This audio lecture includes a supplemental PDF.

This was the weekly poem for Flag Day 2006. It tells the largely-apocryphal but nonetheless inspiring story of one old woman’s act of patriotism during a Confederate advance in the civil war. (summary by LauraFox)

Many books praise the great man Donald Trump. None of these books praises him enough, though. Because Donald Trump really is the second coming of Christ. In this short article, I will supply several comprehensive pieces of evidence that Donald is the messiah of our time. I will do this by analyzing his policies and comparing his character with Jesus Christ and other prominent religious figures.
Hopefully this analyses will enable more people to see the truth about the world, and about the Divine Nature of Donald Trump.

In 1937, George Orwell spent six months witnessing the rise and fall of a popular revolution on the streets of Barcelona and Catalonia. Alone amongst his contemporaries, Orwell understood what the success or failure of that Spanish Revolution would mean for the rest of the world.
1984 And The Spanish Civil War explores the background to the Civil War and the hidden anarchist revolution within a revolution. As Orwell arrives in Catalunya, he observes something bright and new in the world. But when Orwell returns from fighting on the front, he is confronted by the Communists conducting a misinformation campaign against this revolutionary spirit and he is forced to flee from their purges. He returns home to England, where he begins to write his account, but finds few are prepared to listen. In order to tell his story, he writes literally (Homage to Catalunya), then when that fails, he adopts the structure of allegory (Animal Farm) and finally that of a dystopian fictional Britain in 1984.
Yet publication is a constant struggle for Orwell in a world that refuses to criticise the role of the USSR. Though he dies in despair, his words are not lost, for their message is picked up once more on the streets of the same country he fought for back in the 1930's.
Praise for 1984 and The Spanish Civil War:
"Paul has achieved in a concise volume what others have failed in far more voluminous accounts."
"An interesting read if you are new to Orwell or the Civil War in Spain...Highly recommended".
The Forgotten Stories from Spain Series brings you accounts of human bravery and spirit at a moment of unleashed cruelty during the Spanish Civil War. Stories of co-operation that have a universal message, as relevant to the world today, as it was in Spain during the 1930's.

National Ballot Measures 2024 - Living Democracy is my gift to the country that I love dearly and have always wanted to see it survive, thrive and improve.
Whenever I am forced to listen to a speech made by any of our Congressmen or women, I will often count the number of times they will refer to America as a 'Democracy'. They use that word an average of 15 to 20 times per speech.
They'll say things like - "Democracy is not pretty." Or they'll say, "Democracy is messy and people don't want to see how the sausage is made." Or they will say that people are trying to "end the 'American experiment in Democracy."
Or they'll quote one of the greatest of the founding fathers - Benjamin Franklin who was asked as the signers of of the Constitution were leaving: "Mr. Franklin, what kind of government have you given us?"
And Franklin replied: "A Republic, Madam, if you can keep it."
And so, we can take from this very portentous comment from Ben Franklin that the founding fathers were well aware that there would be forces someday who would try to take even this very modest amount of democracy - a Representative form of Democracy away from us.
It would take almost 250 years for this prediction to come true, but here we are under the threat of a dictatorship that could be forced upon us any minute will certainly spell the end of the American Experiment in Democracy, or it will cause a huge upheaval, perhaps even another Civil War, as many are predicting.
Not if we make a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT in our form of Government. .
Every election more than half of our registered voters sit it out and the reason is that every election we find ourselves voting for the same old same old. With the modern technology we have gained, there is no reason why we cannot vote on National Ballot Measures instead of two men in suits.

Barack Obama and his radical team of self-professed socialists, fringe activists, and others are trying to remake the American way of life. They have used their new Democratic majority to launch an alarming assault on our capitalist system—while abandoning the war on terror, undermining our national security, and weakening our position in the eyes of our enemies. The "candidate of change" is threatening to change our country irreparably, and for the worse—if we don't act to stop him now.Sean Hannity has been sounding the alarms about Obama and his agenda from the start. Now—in his first new book in six years—he issues a stirring call to action. Hannity surveys all the major Obama players—from the president's affiliation with radical theology to his advisers' history of Marxist activism, repression of the media, support for leftist dictators, and worse. He exposes their resulting campaign to dismantle the American free-market system and forfeit our national sovereignty. But he draws on the examples of Ronald Reagan and the GOP's Contract with America to show how conservatives can unite behind this country's most cherished principles and act now to get America back on the right track—while we still can.
