Sinossi

Peepolykus bring their exhilarating combination of verbal slapstick, visual surprise and anarchic comedy to Gustave Flaubert's seminal nineteenth-century masterpiece Madame Bovary.

Laugh and cry in equal measure as Emma Bovary chooses the wrong husband. Lose yourself in mesmeric love scenes featuring a procession of devastatingly attractive men. Rail at the fate of women in a patriarchal society, if you will. Prepare yourself for vermin, moustaches, wild animals, lots of French people and a nun.

Written for a bijou cast of four playing multiple roles, The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovarywas a co-production between Peepolykus, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, the Nuffield in Southampton, Bristol Old Vic and the Royal & Derngate in Northampton. It premiered at the Everyman in Liverpool in 2016 before touring to all those other places too.

Like their tremendously popular Hound of the Baskervilles, Peepolykus's Bovary offers abundant opportunities for comedy and slapstick - plus some massive tragedy - to any theatre company or drama group looking for a loving derailment of a classic novel.

Written in memory of her mother, who died of motor neurone disease in 2012, the poems of Requiem roughly cover the timespan of an illness, death, and burial. The formal structure is based on the Catholic Requiem Mass as it has been set as a choral piece by Giuseppe Verdi, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Duruflé, and many others. The poems quote from other classical and folk works about the underworld and the passage into death, juxtaposing the engagement with the old text with modern references.

    The Poetry of the Sufis

Sufism had its origins in the early days of Islam and was defined by its mystical and philosophical absorption with the search for God and the love and grace of God. The striving for union with God was the ultimate Sufi goal but could not be achieved until death, so earthly life devoted itself to worship God, love mankind, respect nature and conquer the Self, severing the chains of our worldly life.

Along the centuries numerous interpretations and definitions of Sufism have waxed and waned but the undeniable beauty of their verse in its myriad of forms including the musical Ghazal (love song), Masnavi (narrative) and Rubai (quatrain) always remains.

Our chronological volume of the classic Sufi poets helps us understand the spiritual direction of Sufism, starting with Rabia in the 8th century through to Khwaja Ghulam Farid over a thousand years later.

It is a journey of fascinating thoughts and beauty.

How long can secrets remain undiscovered? What is “destiny?” Mary Blair Destiny is an unforgettable true story of serendipity, discovery, resilience, and healing.
Mary Blair Destiny is based on the true story of a young woman, Dorothy, who discovers her birth parents by a series of 'accidents' -- and their affluent yet tragic lives in old Virginia. Fate and chance encounters lead Dorothy to uncover details of her birth and then her surprising circumstances as an infant. Dorothy set forth on an unwavering quest to find answers and bring healing to her life, yet she carried shame to her grave. A prominent politician, a doctor’s fastidious records, and a unique name, Mary Blair, solved the puzzle of Dorothy’s life. Generations later, more details are unearthed, no longer buried with those that held the deepest family secrets. Dorothy's true story is the product of a different era in American culture, but her strength and resolve remain timeless for all ages.
Following the lessons from the main characters, Richman reveals to readers virtues of looking at life as one moment, and that this present moment is irreplaceable. Richman and the lives portrayed in her story are proof that the richness of life is found in our connections with others—marriages and friendships, the moments in life that we share, and the ways that we become connected. The stories told in Mary Blair Destiny add up to a guide for living well, with inspiration for all of us.
Join author Erin Richman on this journey to resolve and heal the legacy that impacted generations of women and a branch of a family once-unknown.
