The classic account of moving from slavery to freedom, by the celebrated African-American educator and university founder. Booker T. Washington believed that every man and woman deserved a chance, regardless of their skin color. This classic work of literature, originally published in 1901, relays the story of a man born into slavery who, once freed, pursued education and racial equality. This new edition of Booker T. Washington’s autobiography features a foreword from media personality and advocate for the advancement of African Americans Mychal Massie. In his story, Washington details his childhood and recounts his often-tumultuous transition from slavery to free life. His unwavering efforts eventually led to the founding and evolution of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, a college created to further the education of African Americans. The distinguished author and educator remembers such notable speeches as the Atlanta Compromise in 1895 and recognitions from Samuel C. Armstrong and President McKinley. Booker T. Washington (1856-1915) was born into slavery and freed after the Civil War in 1865. After completing his education and teaching at Hampton Institute, he headed the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Upon giving his famous Atlanta Compromise Speech, Washington became a national figure and received an honorary master’s degree from Harvard University and an honorary doctorate from Dartmouth College. The publication of Up from Slavery garnered Washington an invitation from Theodore Roosevelt to visit the White House, the first given to an African American. Mychal Massie, in addition to appearing on national television programs such as The O’Reilly Factor, is a syndicated columnist for WorldNetDaily and the former host of Rightalk Radio’s “Straight Talk.” The outspoken media personality is the chairman of the National Leadership Network of Black Conservatives, Project 21. The Conservative Party of New York State recognized him as the Conservative Man of the Year in 2008. Massie lives in Zion Hill, Pennsylvania.

Readers Love This Series - Over 7,000 Five-Star Ratings
Sixth Book of the True Crime Case Histories Series (2021)
A sampling of the stories includes:The Darlington Cannibal: In this book, there’s the story of a young English man who had plans to become the UK’s most notorious serial killer but couldn’t keep his mouth shut after his first kill and bragged to over twenty of his friends. The Carnival Cult: Another story covers a group of four young men who believed they could do anything they wanted because their lord Satan protected them. Satan apparently couldn’t protect them from prison.Saving a Soul: There’s the story of a San Diego man who made it his life’s mission to help young men avoid a life of crime. His good deeds resulted in his entire family being butchered by a boy he was trying to help.Dead in the Water: Another killer, a father of eight children, lured women to his boat, raped them, and threw them overboard. Ingenious forensic science was eventually used to catch the killer.Consumed by Desire: One story of a young man who couldn’t handle being rejected by his teenage girlfriend was suggested to me by a reader whose daughter had a close call with the killer.
    Plus, many more disturbing stories.
The twelve stories in this volume are shocking and disturbing, but they’re true. These things really happen in the world. We may never understand why killers do what they do, but at least we can be better informed. You may have heard of a few of the stories in this volume, but there are several I’m almost certain you haven’t.

Ten years ago, Liyana Dhamirah was in a precarious situation: at 22, she was heavily pregnant and had no place to call home. For Liyana, home was often unstable. Once a bright teenager full of optimism, she faced uncertainty and found no support from family, government agencies and welfare groups. She had nowhere to go, no one to turn to. When she started living on a beach in Sembawang, she discovered a community of people — families — who were homeless just like her. They stuck together and watched out for each other, even when there were raids. She learned that in prosperous Singapore, the homeless are not always identifiable by appearance alone.Months later, journalists eventually uncovered Liyana’s story and how she navigated a bureaucracy of obstacles. Today she is a successful entrepreneur and this is her memoir.
