A picture of the Riel Resistance from one of Canada’s preeminent Métis poets

With a title derived from John A. Macdonald’s moniker for the Métis, The Pemmican Eaters explores Marilyn Dumont’s sense of history as the dynamic present. Combining free verse and metered poems, her latest collection aims to recreate a palpable sense of the Riel Resistance period and evoke the geographical, linguistic/cultural, and political situation of Batoche during this time through the eyes of those who experienced the battles, as well as through the eyes of Gabriel and Madeleine Dumont and Louis Riel.

Included in this collection are poems about the bison, seed beadwork, and the Red River Cart, and some poems employ elements of the Michif language, which, along with French and Cree, was spoken by Dumont’s ancestors. In Dumont’s The Pemmican Eaters, a multiplicity of identities is a strengthening rather than a weakening or diluting force in culture.

Alex and Rupert aren't a conventional match, but a caffeinated meeting on the Underground ignites a spark. Skip forward to them fighting over baby names, nursery colours and ways to save money. All the signs of a normal family in waiting.
Then Alex goes into labour, their baby is born still – and their world implodes. What follows is a window into how a couple find the strength to move forward, the will to stay together, and the determination to keep alive the memory of their child.
Anything is Possible if You Think About It Hard Enough takes us to the depths of grief to find hope, and to the edge of insanity to find reason. There is humour, too, in the most unexpected places.

Cordelia O'Neill's play was first presented by Small Things Theatre at Southwark Playhouse, London, in September 2021.

An irresistibly funny and tender play about big dreams and small changes.
Amid the dreaming, the dramas and the dirty dishes, something has to give. But will it be Kath or the kitchen sink?
Things aren't going to plan for one family in Withernsea, Yorkshire. Pieces are falling off Martin's milk float as quickly as he's losing customers and something's up with Kath's kitchen sink. Billy is pinning his hopes of a place at art college on a revealing portrait of Dolly Parton, whilst Sophie's dreams of becoming a ju-jitsu teacher might be disappearing down the plughole.
This volume also includes the monologue Spacewang.
'This is one of the best new plays I have seen anywhere this year, and I cannot recommend it too highly.' Charles Spencer, Telegraph
'Wells wrings more riches out of seemingly throwaway lines than a lot of writers manage in an entire play' Evening Standard

Kelsey Peterson has one goal. To talk to Olivia Pritchard, the most beautiful woman she has ever seen. There’s only one problem with the plan! Kelsey is useless with women. So useless, in fact, that she tends to cause accidental bodily harm to herself when in the vicinity of an attractive female. Take her first meeting with Olivia, for example. Kelsey’s face meeting a pole because she was staring. Is she a lost cause? Well, Kelsey doesn’t think so. All she needs is a step-by-step method to reach her goals. Then she should be able to have at least a conversation with Olivia, right? As with all well-planned ideas, it goes to pot almost immediately. Still, Kelsey is nothing but persistent and positive. All she has to do is follow her checklist. Easy peasy!
