Summary

The Tuscia Notebooks
A journey through Tuscia on the wings of tales from the past, told to young readers, to preserve the memory and identity of every region.Viterbo (Vetèrbe in the local Viterbese dialect), the capital of the province of the same name in northern Lazio, also known as Tuscia, is located on the lower slopes of the Cimini Mountains and extends westward into the final stretch of the Maremma plain. Its origins are ancient (it is believed that Viterbo derives from the Latin Vetus Urbs, meaning “Old City”) and it boasts the largest medieval historic centre in Europe, with some perfectly preserved neighbourhoods. This historic centre is encircled by walls and surrounded by modern districts, while to the southwest lie valuable agricultural, archaeological, and thermal areas.
The city and its inhabitants are the protagonists of countless legends that fade into the mists of time.PUBLISHER: TEKTIME

Artist Norman Thelwell is best known for his cartoons depicting plump, petulant ponies and their young riders, but The Effluent Society shows another aspect of his work and character. Thelwell was passionate about the countryside and nature. During his life he became increasingly concerned about the impact of development, pollution and society's treatment of the environment. When The Effluent Society was first published in 1971, his concerns were way ahead of their time. Today, environmental and conservation issues are in the mainstream and have become a global priority.

Although the cartoons focus on a serious topic there is no mistaking Thelwell's inimitable style. He used his talent and humour to convey a powerful message: the need to protect the environment. He also takes a wry look at modern life and so-called progress. Thelwell admitted that out of all his books, The Effluent Society was the one that gave him the greatest 'personal satisfaction' and, as such, the re-issue of this title is a fitting tribute to the artist.

    Introducing Psychoanalysis - A...

The ideas of psychoanalysis have permeated Western culture. It is the dominant paradigm through which we understand our emotional lives, and Freud still finds himself an iconic figure. Yet despite the constant stream of anti-Freud literature, little is known about contemporary psychoanalysis.
Introducing Psychoanalysis redresses the balance. It introduces psychoanalysis as a unified 'theory of the unconscious' with a variety of different theoretical and therapeutic approaches, explains some of the strange ways in which psychoanalysts think about the mind, and is one of the few books to connect psychoanalysis to everyday life and common understanding of the world.
How do psychoanalysts conceptualize the mind?
Why was Freud so interested in sex?
    Is psychoanalysis a science?
    How does analysis work?

In answering these questions, this book offers new insights into the nature of psychoanalytic theory and original ways of describing therapeutic practice. The theory comes alive through Oscar Zarate's insightful and daring illustrations, which enlighten the text. In demystifying and explaining psychoanalysis, this book will be of interest to students, teachers and the general public.
