This work, rendered in a drifting, lyrical style reminiscent of classic sea literature, delves into the tales of shipwrecks and the poignant narratives of sailors lost to the mighty seas. Paine's vivid descriptions and rich imagery provide readers with a profound sense of place, while his insightful exploration of themes such as adventure, loss, and the human spirit's resilience invites deep reflection. Set against the backdrop of the early 20th century, the book resonates with the contemporary fascination with both the mystery and danger of the maritime world. As a seasoned sailor and journalist, Paine drew from his personal experiences on the sea, infusing his writing with authenticity and passion. His background in maritime journalism and keen observations of human nature allow him to craft compelling narratives that transcend simple accounts of maritime disasters. Paine's extensive travels and encounters with diverse cultures further enrich the fabric of his storytelling. I would like to begin by thanking my wonderful wife, Pamela, for continually encouraging me to write this book.
The title of this book, God's Plan for Heaven, Eternity, and the Universe Explained, is exactly that. This book will help you to easily understand God's plan from the beginning of creation all the way to when the human race is over and everyone is living inside eternity with God or separated from God. The only thing that matters for every human being is eternity, and all of God's plan is about how to know him and spend it with him. This book is very different. It is written for everyone, from people with little or no Bible knowledge to even people with advanced knowledge of the Bible who will learn things that most have never even thought about before.
God creating human beings, despite knowing we would sin against him from the very beginning and be born with a sinful nature, is by far the greatest thing God has ever done and will probably be the greatest thing he will ever do in all of eternity. The pleasure we bring him is incalculable, as you will see. This book will help you to understand not only what God has done in his plan, but more importantly why he has done it the way he has done it. Many will think this book is simply my opinion, but everything in this book is based directly on God's word in the Bible or indirectly based on what God has done according to his direct word in the Bible.

While we can all recall images of Martin Luther King Jr. giving his "I Have a Dream" speech in front of a massive crowd at Lincoln Memorial, few of us remember the man who organized this watershed nonviolent protest in eight short weeks: Bayard Rustin.

This was far from Rustin's first foray into the fight for civil rights. As a world-traveling pacifist, he brought Gandhi's protest techniques to the forefront of US civil rights demonstrations, helped build the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, led the fight for economic justice, and played a deeply influential role in the life of Dr. King by helping to mold him into an international symbol of nonviolent resistance. Rustin's legacy touches many areas of contemporary life—from civil resistance to violent uprisings, democracy to socialism, and criminal justice reform to war resistance.

Despite these achievements, Rustin was often relegated to the background. He was silenced, threatened, arrested, beaten, imprisoned, and fired from important leadership positions, largely because he was an openly gay man in a fiercely homophobic era. This volume draws a full picture of Bayard Rustin: a gay, pacifist, socialist political radical who changed the course of US history and set a precedent for future civil rights activism, from LGBTQ+ Pride to Black Lives Matter.

Fishing With Tardelli - A Memoir...

A literary meditation on memory, time, love, and loss

Fishing With Tardelli contemplates the relations among four parents — mother, father, stepfather, and a Brazilian fishing companion — and the author. Over marriages and remarriages, fathers and mothers become stepfathers and stepmothers, and brothers gain and lose stepbrothers and half-brothers, sisters and half-sisters across two continents. The various homes become part of Besner’s internal geography; memory, dream, story, fable become permeable layers folded over bald facts baldly stated.

Beginning with an older man’s recollections of himself as a young teenager fishing with Tardelli in the bay in Rio de Janeiro, the memoir reflects on time lost and time regained. The narration ranges across the mid-’40s in Montreal, where two couples marry, divorce, and remarry in a new configuration; proceeds to Rio de Janeiro in the mid-’50s, when one of these newly formed families emigrates; and returns to Montreal in the late ’60s and early ’70s. After a 50-year interlude, Besner returns from Western Canada to the pandemic moment in Toronto.
