Synopsis

The twittering of the birds at daybreak sounded insipid to Françoise. Every word uttered by the maids upstairs made her jump; disturbed by all their running about, she kept asking herself what they could be doing. In other words, we had moved. Certainly the servants had made no less noise in the attics of our old home; but she knew them, she had made of their comings and goings familiar events. Now she faced even silence with a strained attention. And as our new neighbourhood appeared to be as quiet as the boulevard on to which we had hitherto looked had been noisy, the song (distinct at a distance, when it was still quite faint, like an orchestral motif) of a passer-by brought tears to the eyes of a Françoise in exile. And so if I had been tempted to laugh at her in her misery at having to leave a house in which she was “so well respected on all sides” and had packed her trunks with tears, according to the Use of Combray, declaring superior to all possible houses that which had been ours, on the other hand I, who found it as hard to assimilate new as I found it easy to abandon old conditions, I felt myself drawn towards our old servant when I saw that this installation of herself in a building where she had not received from the hall-porter, who did not yet know us, the marks of respect necessary to her moral wellbeing, had brought her positively to the verge of dissolution.

The enigmatic founder and leader of the Beatles, John Lennon was not only a groundbreaking musician and composer for the ages but also a keen philosopher, seeker of truth, and politically savvy advocate of nonviolence, tolerance, and unrestricted personal freedom. The enlightened big brother to now several generations, Lennon consistently gave everything he had, and then some, to his liberated, infectious music and wide-ranging, common-sense political ideals. In this expansive, comprehensive collection, the very best of John Lennon’s thought-provoking words, the myth, legend, and rumor surrounding this great man is stripped away, and the real John as artist and thoughtful global citizen emerges. Carefully edited to relieve the listener of the tedious twee of the almost always ill-informed and sensationalist-seeking interviewer, Lennon is free to speak his mind on an incredible array of subjects; including his work with the Beatles, his days as a freaky peace politician, his relationships with the other members of the group, the painful trails of his parentless childhood, the creation of his artistic work, and other equally engrossing entertaining Lennonspeak. Here is the perfect collection of the great John Lennon for every dedicated Beatles fan, music historian, the media, as well as all school, library, institutional, and university collections.Series producer Avalon Giuliano in New York. Produced by Alex Franchi in Milan. Edited and mixed by Macc Kay in Bangkok. ICON intern Eden Giuliano. Music by AudioNautix.

In 2001, General Motors hired Bob Lutz out of retirement with a mandate to save the company by making great cars again. He launched a war against penny pinching, office politics, turf wars, and risk avoidance. After declaring bankruptcy during the recession of 2008, GM is back on track thanks to its embrace of Lutz's philosophy. When Lutz got into the auto business in the early sixties, CEOs knew that if you captured the public's imagination with great cars, the money would follow. The car guys held sway, and GM dominated with bold, creative leadership and iconic brands like Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, GMC, and Chevrolet. But then GM's leadership began to put their faith in analysis, determined to eliminate the "waste" and "personality worship" of the bygone creative leaders. Management got too smart for its own good. With the bean counters firmly in charge, carmakers (and much of American industry) lost their single-minded focus on product excellence. Decline followed.Lutz's commonsense lessons (with a generous helping of fascinating anecdotes) will inspire readers at any company facing the bean counter analysis-paralysis menace.

How many likes did you receive on your last post?
Are you satisfied with that number of likes?  Jordan Wells once believed that social media was the beginning of great success for his career, his relationships with people, his whole life in general.  Wells was very much so mistaking.  In this memoir, you will take a journey into the mind of Jordan Wells, who will try to guide you out of this world we have fallen in love with so much; the great and powerful social media world.  You will read about the struggle Wells once had with his addiction to social media, and his excessive use of smartphones.  Wells will elaborate his theories on why people should take a sharp break from social media, to avoid being pulled into a never-ending downward spiral.  You will also read about Wells’ profound visions of what he believes could happen in the very far future, beyond the twenty-first century.
What do you gain from posting on an app?  Posting about your personal lives, your business, love, family, friends, and all of that personal information that gives you nothing in return except likes.  Likes, comments, views, and followers from random strangers that you will never even know.
After reading “Logged Off: My Journey of Escaping the Social Media World,” you will possibly have a change of heart on what you post on your social media accounts, or perhaps avoid social media at all cost.
The mission that Wells is hoping to accomplish with you, the reader, is to let you know that you have a choice. To present you with another alternative, to have a different perspective, and to see what life is like on the other side of the fence.
Jordan Wells has logged off, never to return. Will you?

During his first deployment to Afghanistan, Joseph Perez saw two angels above a friend who was about to go on a combat patrol. Moments later, his friend was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device. This was the first of several times Perez would see angels in the spiritual realm. Though he shares these experiences and his life’s journey, this book is not about him; rather, it is a message of hope and faith.Perez’s story shows that it’s okay to be a Christian no matter the circumstances. He always said if he got kicked out of the military for being open about his faith, then at least he would leave for the right reasons. It turns out it was faith and following God that got him through it.
