This includes designing systems for industrial emissions control, developing strategies to reduce vehicle emissions, and assessing indoor air quality in buildings. 
  
Solid waste management involves the collection, recycling, treatment, and disposal of solid waste in an environmentally responsible manner. Environmental engineers work to minimize the generation of waste, promote recycling and composting, and manage hazardous waste streams safely.
