Sinossi

Camille Pissarro was a key figure in the history of Impressionism, being the only artist to show his work in all eight Impressionist exhibitions, remaining dedicated to the movement’s artistic beliefs. His paintings combine a fascination of rural subject matter with the empirical study of nature under different conditions of light and atmosphere, offering delicate studies of light and colour. A supportive mentor to influential artists such as Cézanne and Gauguin, Pissarro was described by many as the ‘Father of the Impressionists’. Delphi’s Masters of Art Series presents the world’s first digital e-Art books, allowing readers to explore the works of great artists in comprehensive detail. This volume presents Pissarro’s complete paintings in beautiful detail, with concise introductions, hundreds of high quality images and the usual Delphi bonus material. (Version 1)

“Gives voice to the women who have risked their lives for a few (perilous) moments on the big screen. A fascinating look at a risky profession.” —The Washington Post

They’ve traded punches in knockdown brawls, crashed biplanes through barns, and raced to the rescue in fast cars. They add suspense and drama to the story, portraying the swimmer stalked by the menacing shark, the heroine dangling twenty feet below a soaring hot air balloon, or the woman leaping nine feet over a wall to escape a dog attack. Only an expert can make such feats of daring look easy, and stuntwomen with the skills to perform—and survive—great moments of action in movies have been hitting their mark in Hollywood since the beginning of film.

Here, Mollie Gregory presents the first history of stuntwomen in the film industry from the silent era to the twenty-first century. In the early years of motion pictures, women were highly involved in all aspects of film production, but they were marginalized as movies became popular, and more important, profitable. Capable stuntwomen were replaced by men in wigs, and very few worked between the 1930s and 1960s. As late as the 1990s, men wore wigs and women’s clothes to double as actresses, and were even “painted down” for some performances, while men and women of color were regularly denied stunt work.

For decades, stuntwomen have faced institutional discrimination, unequal pay, and sexual harassment even as they jumped from speeding trains and raced horse-drawn carriages away from burning buildings. Featuring sixty-five interviews, Stuntwomen showcases the absorbing stories and uncommon courage of women who make their living planning and performing action-packed sequences that keep viewers’ hearts racing.

Fort Laramie is an adult-oriented Western radio series that aired Sunday afternoons on the CBS radio network from January 22 to October 28, 1956.  Produced and directed by Gunsmoke's Norman Macdonnell, this realistic Western drama depicted life at Fort Laramie, an important stop on the Oregon, California and Mormon trails as well as a staging point for various military excursions during the 19th Century. In 1849 the Fort was taken over by the United States Army to protect the many wagon trains of migrant travelers on the trail. The Fort was located across the North Platte River from the town of Laramie, at the mouth of the Laramie River.  The series starred Raymond Burr as Lee Quince, captain of the cavalry.  Regulars included: Vic Perrin, Harry Bartell, Jack Moyles, Howard McNear, Sam Edwards, John Dehner, John McIntire, Virginia Gregg, James Nusser, Parley Baer and Barney Phillips.  Amerigo Marino supplied the music. The scripts were mostly written by John Meston, Kathleen Hite, Les Crutchfield and John Dunkel.

Without a doubt, Katsushika Hokusai is the most famous Japanese artist since the middle of the nineteenth century whose art is known to the Western world. Reflecting the artistic expression of an isolated civilisation, the works of Hokusai - one of the first Japanese artists to emerge in Europe - greatly influenced
the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters, such as Vincent van Gogh. Considered during his life as a living Ukiyo-e master, Hokusai fascinates us with the variety and the significance of his work, which spanned almost ninety years and is presented here in all its breadth and diversity.
