Summary

Golf, it has been said, ruins the disposition, hurts the eyes, blisters the hands, ties kinks in the nervous system, debauches the morals, drives men to drink or homicide, breaks up the family, turns the ductless glands into internal warts, induces progressive mendacity and a few other things besides.
Peter Alliss disagrees with nine of these. He also finds the game's potential for hilarious mischance one of its most endearing qualities. In Bedside Golf he presents his evidence.

Produced by Dr. Elliott Haimoff, Barbara Sharp, Alina Butina and Randy FriendThis audiobook contains the UNIQUE unfiltered, unedited, and previously unreleased interviews conducted by Dr. Elliott Haimoff of Afterburner Enterprises of the long-time LA Lakers owner, Dr. Jerry Buss, and his daughter, Jeanie Buss, who is now the President and controlling owner of the Lakers. These two iconic figures collectively changed the game of pro basketball as we now know it, and altered the entire landscape of pro sports entertainment. They put the “Show” in “Showtime”, representing the gold standard for all sports teams in all pro sports leagues around the world. However, Jerry & Jeanie have never previously told the back-story to the early days of their sports team ownership, before all the glitz and glam and Hall of Fame players. Their true creative genius is brought here to the public from their own recollections and in their own words of those kinder gentler days of yesteryear. There are several other previously unreleased interviews with basketball and sports icons interviewed here who all had an effect on the Buss family that’s included here - Dennis Murphy, Mitch Kupchak, Bill Sharman, Claire Rothman, and Michael Shapiro. The introduction and epilogue are presented by John Ireland, the long-time LA Lakers announcer and “Voice of the Lakers”.

One of the most candid and eloquent fishing memoirs ever written. This is Laurence's unusual fishing autobiography in which he talks openly about how, as a young man, his excessive drinking brought him to an important turning point in his fishing life. This is elegantly interwoven around his lively views on the northern upstream tradition, catch-and-release, worming and other topics.

In the second part of the book, Laurence embarks on what he expects to be an idyllic time as he takes early retirement and looks forward to even more shooting and fishing – when a personal crisis plunges him into a nervous breakdown. This frank exploration of how fishing became impossible to contemplate during the darkest days but how it went on to form an essential part of eventual recovery, is a new departure in angling literature and will strike a chord with many readers.
This is a surprisingly funny, honest and moving memoir which pushes back the boundaries of eloquent fishing literature.

'So I began thinking again of those two white blanks on the map, of penguins and humming birds, of the pampas and of gauchos, in short, of Patagonia, a place where, one was told, the natives' heads steam when they eat marmalade.'
So responded H. W. 'Bill' Tilman to his own realisation that the Himalaya were too high for a mountaineer now well into his fifties. He would trade extremes of altitude for the romance of the sea with, at his journey's end, mountains and glaciers at a smaller scale; and the less explored they were, the better he would like it. Within a couple of years he had progressed from sailing a 14-foot dinghy to his own 45-foot pilot cutter Mischief, readied for her deep-sea voyaging, and recruited a crew for his most ambitious of private expeditions.
Well past her prime, Mischief carried Tilman, along with an ex-dairy farmer, two army officers and a retired civil servant, safely the length of the North and South Atlantic oceans, and through the notoriously difficult Magellan Strait, against strong prevailing winds, to their icy landfall in the far south of Chile.
The shore party spent six weeks crossing the Patagonian ice cap, in both directions, returning to find that their vessel had suffered a broken propeller. Edging north under sail only, Mischief put into Valparaiso for repairs, and finally made it home to Lymington via the Panama Canal, for a total of 20,000 nautical miles sailed, in addition to a major exploration 'first' all here related with the skipper's characteristic modesty and bone-dry humour, and many photographs.
