Summary

In "Vine and Olive; Or, Young America in Spain and Portugal," Oliver Optic weaves a vibrant tapestry of travel and adventure that encapsulates the spirit of youthful exploration in the mid-19th century. The narrative follows a group of spirited American youths as they journey through the rich landscapes of Spain and Portugal, engaging with local cultures, histories, and the contrasts of Old World traditions against the burgeoning American identity. Optic'Äôs literary style is characterized by lively descriptions, engaging dialogue, and a didactic approach that aims to enlighten young readers, making the work a quintessential example of the educational adventure genre prevalent during this era. Oliver Optic, born James Otis Kaler, was a prolific author and a staunch advocate for youth literature, often drawing from his experiences and travels. His passion for education and foundational belief in the importance of moral development in young readers undoubtedly influenced his writing. Having spent significant time at sea, Optic's firsthand experiences in foreign locales allowed him to infuse authenticity into his stories, while also aligning them with the cultural and social dynamics of his time. This book is a remarkable choice for readers seeking an inspiring tale that melds adventure with an exploration of cultural encounters. Optic's insightful portrayal encourages young audiences to embrace diversity and curiosity, making "Vine and Olive" not only an entertaining read but also a lasting educational tool that resonates with timeless values of exploration and personal growth.

All dick is not the same! Some are long, and some are short. Some are skinny, some are girthy, some curve, and some have extra skin covering the head. I can repeatedly list countless differences we hear about through comedians, influencers, personalities, and radio and talk show hosts. You see women discussing it on various platforms, laughing to their heart’s content with their fellow sisters, and we, as men, accept this fact and what it means when it comes to our sex, but what about the reverse?
It seems no one talks about the different things that make up “good poon.” I mean, yes, there is the “smelly poon” remark that gets thrown around, and now and again, you’ll hear things about a “deep, loose poon” or a “roast beef poon,” but is that all it comes down to? Are you suddenly in the top 1% if you do not subscribe to those phrases?
I’m here to tell you no. Just like women, men too have talked about the size, the shape, the inside, and many more aspects that all go into what we consider to be “good poom poom,” and we’ve discussed it at length, behind closed doors, details of the feminine parts that never make its way to the town square. No man is loud enough, bold enough, or cares enough to sing the song of the thing that eats the thong, but I, Sherman T. Hancock, have sung!
So, I present to you the Opera of the Bell. Pull the feet of this book close to the edge of the bed, open its legs, lick your fingers and turn the pages, move that leaf to the side, and stick your face in it. I promise you will not stop reading until you have entirely uncovered the secrets hidden deep within this paprika in a bottle, pimento in a bowl, cum inside this capsicum, and discover the Bell Pepper.

“A raw and honest journey of addiction, love, trauma, and redemption—grounded in a deep love of place and all things mustang. The best memoirs reveal the deeply personal in order to see the larger world with renewed clarity and insight—this is one such book. As Wilder moves from heroin to horses, we see a substantive journey of recovery and strength—and ultimately, of resilience.” —LAURA PRITCHETT, author of Stars Go Blue
“For too long, the lone cowboy myth has corralled the American West in the barbed wires of dominion and destruction. Tangled in that telling are women and mustangs—their wildness, togetherness, and vulnerability. In Desert Chrome, Wilder bucks against a story as desiccated as the deserts she has dwelled in—kicking hard enough to free what was bound, to redeem what was broken. Listen now, to the thundering of hearts and hooves. They’re coming for us, at last.” —AMY IRVINE, author of Air Mail and Desert Cabal
“Desert Chrome journeys through parched valleys, on wild rivers, and into deep rock canyons on a unique quest. In this authentic, hard-won account of her life, Wilder finds the warm, true hearts she’s been seeking and that deserve our humanity, healing, and a hell of a lot better future than they’ve been dealt. There’s a quiet heroine at the center of this story, yes, pointing toward a beautiful world. It can be ours if we’ll love better, lean closer, and listen to the voices, like Wilder’s own, well worth heeding from birth.” —REBECCA LAWTON, author of The Oasis This Time
“A powerful coming-of-age story, into the age of a woman’s strongest power, when, with complete awareness of her past, she can, with might and strength, will the future before her. Wilder writes with all the love, wisdom, and courage it takes to make positive changes for the western landscape, horses, and readers.” —CMARIE FUHRMAN, author of Camped Beneath the Dam

“Before you can study an animal, you must first love it.” Konrad Lorenz.
Across the world we are killing too many dogs needlessly.
In Australia approximately 80% of all dogs that end up in shelters are there due to either Dog to Dog or Dog to Human Reactivity. Sadly, this is not a problem exclusive to Australia.
While this is a startling statistic, the sad truth is that the vast majority of dogs facing euthanasia in these shelters are highly salvageable and the solutions are often very simple to apply. Their death is not only unnecessary, but is a blight on how many owners and trainers not only poorly understand dogs, but often unintentionally train them to fail.
What is even harder to accept is that the solution to this epidemic of needless stress is available to everyone, and it starts from how we communicate and train our dogs in our homes, day to day. We have the ability to channel the drives and instincts of our dogs from potential problems into tools that can make these amazing animals thrive with a mind-set based on self-control and low stress, regardless of the environment our dogs are exposed to.
Best of all it can happen at home, every day.
We all have the ability to change how our dogs see triggers in life and in turn educate them into making better choices around how to respond to day-to-day situations in a positive and highly constructive way.
If this book can change the approach of just one person to achieve a better understanding of what causes reactivity in their dog, then that is one person more than before who has better vision and skills to help resolve this problem.
Thank you for taking the time to read this book and in doing so helping me at K-9iQ change the world one person and one dog at a time.
