“Dead souls” is a novel by Russian writer Nikolay Vasilevich Gogol. He is a classic of world literature and surely Gogol’s most famous work. Dead souls is a satirical novel that Gogol’ wrote almost entirely during his stay in Rome. Gogol’ was willing to write a great poem about Russia following a Dante model. And “Dead souls”, which in itself represent a novel, was, in the writer's intentions, only the first part of this great poem, the one in which the lowest moral dimension of Russia (hell, in one Dante's scheme). This great project was unfinished.
