Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, sea serpents, psychic pets, the chupacabras, and the abominable snowman have all attracted official, classified interest.   Now the full, fearsome facts are finally revealed in Nick Redfern’s Monster Files. In these pages, you will discover all the amazing truths, conspiracies, and cover-ups behind the secret studies by the Pentagon, the Kremlin, and the British military, among many others. Despite what your parents might have told you when you were a child, monsters really do exist. And our governments know all about them.

The Boy Scouts Association was just seven years old when war broke out in 1914. With its members brought up with a strong ethos of duty and loyalty, it was no surprise that many wanted to play the best role possible in the nation’s war effort. Many members were amongst those who rallied to the colors and enlisted in the heady days of the first weeks and months of the war. Some already belonged to either the Reserves or the Territorials and so found themselves immediately thrust into the front lines and casualty rates were high. Several of those who fought were decorated for their service, with a number even wining the Victoria Cross. On the Home Front, Boy Scouts served as messengers, printers, dispatch riders etc. in the War Office and other government offices, both locally and nationally. Scouts helped gather in the harvest, hunted for spies, aided the civil and military authorities, maintained watch during air raids, helped various wartime charities and sold old bottles to raise funds for recreational huts and ambulances for the front. Others found themselves mounting guard on the coasts and on vulnerable points such as the railway network, or aiding recruitment efforts across the country. The Boy Scout became a trusted and common sight on the streets of the country and the contribution they made was great indeed.

A biography of one of the most influential Southern Baptist ministers who served from the 1930s through the 1960. This biography depicts the impressive career and personal struggles of a great influence in the Southern Baptist tradition. Roland Q. Leavell served as a minister, evangelist, author, and seminary president. Leavell’s life started as one in search of acceptance and purpose. As the eighth of nine boys, his poverty-stricken parents were not overjoyed at his birth, but Leavell soon earned his place in the family. He likewise felt a need to earn his place in God’s service. As a young minister, Leavell ventured into the small country towns of Mississippi to establish churches and missions, later guiding their growth. This type of evangelistic work attracted the attention of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Leavell was asked to lead a department that would teach churches how to evangelize. Leavell’s leadership and organizational skills made him a perfect candidate for president of the Baptist Bible Institute in New Orleans. He was unanimously elected and made dramatic improvements. Seeing the need for a larger school, he sold the cramped campus in the Garden District. He raised funds and moved across town to the present spacious Gentilly campus. It became an accredited seminary which is now the second largest in the world. Although Leavell’s life was full of spiritual and personal struggles, his focus on God’s work remained his primary focus. His ultimate success can be attributed to his capacity to inspire and lead others. Praise for He Still Stands Tall“Dr. Roland Q. Leavall was a great administrator, a dynamic preacher, a compassionate evangelist, and an effective teacher of evangelism. Among Southern Baptists, he stood tall as a great denominational statesman. All who knew him are in his debt. This book is a welcome addition to our memories.” —Dr. Joe H. Cothen, former vice president of Academic Affairs for the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

“Probably the best biography of Saddam Hussein…[it] presents a coherent view of a man who has generated a good deal of mythology” (Roger Hardy, BBC World Service).

Authors Efraim Karsh and Inari Rautsi, experts on Middle East history and politics, have combined their expertise to write what is largely considered the definitive work on Iraq’s fifth president. Drawing on a wealth of Iraqi, Arab, Western, and Israeli sources, including interviews with people who have had close contact with Saddam Hussein throughout his career, the authors trace the meteoric transformation of an ardent nationalist and obscure Ba’ath party member into a dictator and geopolitical player.

From Saddam’s key role in the violent coup that brought the Ba’ath party to power, to the Iran-Iraq War, the Gulf War, and beyond, Karsh and Rautsi present a detailed biography that skillfully interweaves analysis of Gulf politics and history. Now with a new introduction and epilogue, this authoritative biography is essential for understanding the life and influence of this modern tyrant.

A personal history of one family’s hardships at the dawn of World War II, when thousands of Poles were forced into exile by the Soviet government.“A finely wrought memoir of loss and survival…. With this work, Adamczyk has brought illumination and honor to the families of the thousands who suffered the same terrible fate.”—Publishers Weekly In the shadow of the Holocaust, the Soviet Union’s quiet yet brutal campaign against Polish citizens is often overlooked. Wesley Adamczyk’s gripping memoir, When God Looked the Other Way, gives voice to the hundreds of thousands of victims of Soviet barbarism. Adamczyk was a young Polish boy when he was deported with his mother and siblings from their comfortable home in Luck to Soviet Serbia in May of 1940. His father, a Polish Army officer, was taken prisoner by the Red Army and eventually became one of the victims of the Katyn massacre, in which tens of thousands of Polish officers were slain at the hands of the Soviet secret police. The family’s separation and deportation marked the beginning of a ten-year odyssey in which Adamczyk endured nearly intolerable living conditions, meager food rations, and life-threatening epidemics. A memoir of a childhood spent in unspeakable circumstances, When God Looked the Other Way not only illuminates one of the darkest periods of European history but also traces the loss of innocence and the fight against despair that took root in one young boy. Unflinching and poignant, When Good Looked the Other Way stands as a testament of the trials of a family during wartime and an intimate chronicle of an atrocity yet to receive its historical due. “Mr. Adamczyk writes heartfelt, straight—forward prose…. This book sheds light on more than one forgotten episode of history.” —New York Sun“One of the most remarkable World War II sagas I have ever read. It is history with a human face.” —Washington Times
