A Riveting Memoir of Cross-Cultural Romance at a Pivotal Moment in History
When China opened its doors in the 1980s, it shocked the world by allowing private enterprise and free markets. As a foreign correspondent for BusinessWeek, Dori Jones Yang was among the first American journalists to cover China under Deng Xiaoping, who dared to defy Maoist doctrine as he rushed to catch up with richer nations. Fluent in Mandarin, she got to know ordinary Chinese people―who were embracing opportunities that had once been unimaginable in China.
This deeply personal story follows her rise from rookie reporter to experienced journalist. Her cross-cultural romance gave her deeper insights into how Deng’s reforms led to hopes for better lives. This euphoria―shared by American businesses and Chinese citizens alike―reached its peak in 1989, when peaceful protestors filled Tiananmen Square, demanding democracy. On the ground in Beijing, Dori lived that hope, as well as the despair that followed.
You’ll be inspired by this book of empowerment about a young woman from Ohio who pushed aside barriers to become a foreign correspondent and then persevered despite setbacks. Written in a time when China’s rapid rise is setting off fears in Washington, this book offers insight into the daring policies that started it all.

***This series can be listened to in any order ***
This compilation of 36 stories across three True Crime books contains deeply disturbing content. Unlike typical news reports or TV shows that often sanitize the details of heinous acts, these accounts present an unflinching look at the darkest corners of human behavior.
In this collection, you'll find 36 True Crime stories from the last several decades. Many of which you may never have heard of.
A sampling of the stories includes:
The Creepy Uncle - When a schoolgirl vanishes after being seen arguing with her obsessive uncle, a hidden duffel bag and suspicious text messages help detectives unravel the chilling truth behind her disappearance.
Folly Beach - When teenage girls walking the windswept sands of a sleepy beach town begin to disappear without a trace, the quest to uncover a relentless predator reveals a fetish-fueled monster terrorizing the shores.
The Leaf Killer - After a single mother, her friend, and her two young children disappear from her home, police uncover an eccentric suspect with a strange obsession with leaves.
Web of Lies - When an all-American achiever's parents mysteriously disappear, investigators peel back layers of lies to reveal a disturbing truth behind the family's picture-perfect facade.
The Suitcase Killer - When a fisherman discovers a gruesome package floating in Chesapeake Bay, investigators are plunged into a twisted tale of love, betrayal, and murder. As they unravel the mystery behind a dismembered body, they expose the dark secrets of a seemingly perfect suburban family.
Plus, several more disturbing true crime stories! Each story in this true crime collection is suspenseful and engrossing, leaving me yearning for the next one.

"A bleak but often engrossing real-life story of an eventful and sometimes-dangerous life." - Kirkus Reviews
“Sex, Drugs & Jesus is a riveting memoir that will capture your heart and take you inside the trials and tribulations of Mr. Hubert’s life. I was hooked from the first page.” - USA Today Bestselling Author, Theresa Hissong
My memoir delves into raw detail about my war with my myself. I open up about my crystal meth addiction and being a drug dealer in Houston, Tx. The pain of growing up in poverty under the hand of an abusive dad is also put on display. The time I spent serving in the Air Force during Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the promiscuity that went along with it, is divulged as well. I talk about how I received my HIV + diagnosis on a voicemail and my Hep B + diagnosis in the postal mail. My story gets more intense as I share about how I got 3 felonies, the time I spent in jail, and how I ended up homeless after S.W.A.T. kicked my door in. I talk about the biggest heartbreak in my life which happened when I was kicked out of a megachurch, that I had served with my whole soul for years, just because I am a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and refused to accept the conversion therapy package they offered.
So often people judge those who have been in similar situations. My hope is that my honesty can offer a glimpse into these issues from the inside, rather than from the outside looking in.
