Summary

An Israeli violinist. Living in her trendy canal-side Amsterdam apartment. Nine months pregnant.
One day a mysterious unpaid gas bill from 1944 arrives.
Slid her an envelope right under the door and then just walked away.
It awakens unsettling feelings of collective identity, foreignness and alienation. Stories of a devastating past are compellingly reconstructed to try and make sense of the present.
Maya Arad Yasur's play Amsterdam is a strikingly original, audacious thriller. It received its UK premiere in this English translation by Eran Edry at the Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond, in September 2019.
Available since: 09/11/2019.
Print length: 96 pages.

It's 1671, and the charismatic and unpredictable Colonel Blood is planning the greatest heist of all time: stealing – in plain sight – the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London.
With an audacious plan and a gang of misfits by his side, can he possibly pull it off? And is King Charles II in any mood to have his crown jewels handled?
Based on the scarcely believable true story, Simon Nye's play The Crown Jewels is a riotous and uproarious royal affair. It opened at the Garrick Theatre in London's West End in 2023 before touring, and was directed by Sean Foley with a star-studded cast including Al Murray, Mel Giedroyc, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Aidan McArdle, Neil Morrissey, Joe Thomas and Tanvi Virmani.
It will appeal to any amateur theatre company – monarchists and republicans alike – who want to get their hands on a royally funny caper to perform.

The debut work of a literary legend May Sarton’s career spanned sixty years and included novels, poetry, memoirs, and even children’s books, but it was poetry that provided the world’s first look at her wondrous talent. Encounter in April is a fitting starting point for readers wishing to familiarize themselves with one of the twentieth century’s most lyrical and eloquent authors.   In this anthology, Sarton describes womanhood devastatingly and unforgettably, deftly matching serene imagery with powerful emotion. Her sonnets are to be savored. Encounter in April is a thesis statement for a lengthy and profound career, and Sarton’s talent is readily evident from the beginning.

Phantasmagoria, Lewis Carroll's longest poem, was first published by Macmillan and Co., London, in 1869. Written in seven cantos, it tells the tale, in quintains, of a gentleman called Tibbets and his experience conversing with a phantom. This amusing "epic" takes us through their initial fear of each other, a fierce debate over the goings-on of the supernatural world, and finally, to a touching mutual admiration.

This is a signature title in The Colonial Radio Theatre's meticulously researched series of accurate historical programs. Lt. Col. George A. Custer leads his 7th Cavalry in the Valley of the Little Big Horn and into eternity in this truly spectacular audio dramatization. It is our heartfelt hope that we have done justice to the events of June 25, 1876. It was a horrific battle, which saw no true victors. Custer's command lost their lives. The Plains Indians lost their way of life.

Today perhaps we all agree that youth is spoilt, ill-disciplined and in search of constant, and instant, gratification. No matter how much we love them, our children, as they mature from child to youth, are pampered.

A century ago, and even further back, even the most privileged of youth was rarely indulged. In this volume we look at those years of youth through the eyes and pens of classic poets. They reveal times of hardship, of fear, of love and loss.

But youth is idealistic, ready to change the world….but usually ending up in the service of others, be it parents, or patrons, or employers, from a career in trade to the slaughter of war.

Life is difficult, a sometimes grim monotone and, it seems, only occasionally splashed with the colour of love, of beauty and ambition.

However, one thing we can be certain of though is that these verses speak not only from the head but from the heart.
