Sinopse

First serialized in 1907 and then published as a book in 1908, Mary Roberts Rinehart's The Circular Staircase is the popular mystery story about the dowager Rachel Innes as she reveals and prevents a series of strange crimes at the home she has rented for the summer. The Circular Staircase was Rinehart's first bestseller and was the originator of the popular "had I but known" genre of mystery writing, where the main character narrates the tale and foreshadows impending doom and tragedy while reflecting on what they might have done differently if only they had known what was to come. Rinehart was inspired to write this tale after visiting a Gothic revival castle in Virginia and sets her story in a similarly mysterious old house in the country. The main character, Rachel, is an older woman who has raised her niece and nephew, who are now adults and have convinced her to leave her city home behind for the summer and vacation with them in the country. What follows is a masterfully written and suspenseful tale of murder, arson, kidnapping, and mysterious intruders sneaking about in the night that continues to thrill readers over a century later.

Everything seems to be going well for Alex—she has her dream job as an intern on a popular investigative news program and is engaged to a man who is almost too perfect. Now her best friends are taking her on a surprise bachelorette weekend planned with Alex's unusual set of interests in mind: her obsession with the famous 666 Killer.

Alex and her friends get a thrill out of staying at the allegedly haunted hunting lodge in the Catskill mountains where a serial killer once stabbed his victim and wrote 666 on the walls in her blood. Though getting snowed in by a blizzard wasn't part of the plan, the three girls make the most of their celebration. Then Alex wakes up to find her friends have vanished, blood spattered all over their sleeping bags and on her hands. With no idea what happened, Alex worries the decade-old murder has come back to haunt them and she is the one to blame. Her recent prison interview with the 666 Killer seems to have stirred up past demons, throwing her friends into danger. The prisoner has always maintained his innocence, claiming the "real killer" was still out there. Has the true 666 Killer finally returned? Alex must rely on her years of following true crime stories to try to solve the case and save her friends. But even she does not see the final, staggering twist coming, and the shocking truth just might kill her.

Murder, Belladonna, and a Cup of Proper Tea…
When burned-out psychologist Dr Julian Blackwood arrives in postcard-perfect Varenna, Italy, all he wants is rest, sunshine, and a decent brew. But when a luxury BMW crashes into a fifteenth-century house and a wealthy banker turns up dead—with poison in his veins—Julian finds himself sipping espresso and untangling lies instead of lounging lakeside.
The police think it's an open-and-shut case: Thomas Roth, the victim’s playboy nephew, had the motive, means, and a scandalous history. But Julian’s keen eye—and finely tuned instincts—say otherwise. Why does the town's tidy ex-major seem more concerned by tourists than murder? What’s really hiding behind the glam facade of the suspect’s fashion-model fiancée? And who keeps slipping between the cypress trees at Villa Lusso?
With the help of a sharp local police officer, a caring citizen, and a suspiciously well-dressed lawyer, Julian delves into a world of vendettas, poisoned beauty products, and civic pride with deadly consequences. From dusty balconies to moonlit alleys, he must outwit a killer who’s counting on small-town secrecy to keep the truth buried.
Packed with sun-drenched charm, biting wit, and a twisty puzzle at its heart, Death on Via Venini is perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, Carlene O’Connor, and Faith Martin.
If you love cosy mysteries with brains, beauty, and a dose of old-school sleuthing, Julian Blackwood is your next favourite amateur detective.
