    In Freddy and the Bean Home News, Freddy’s friend Mr. Dimsey, the editor of the Guardian, is ousted for publishing news of Bean Farm in the local newspaper. To ensure that those who are interested might still learn of all the goings-on, Freddy takes it upon himself to found a newspaper of his own and calls it The Bean Home News (the basis for the ever-popular Freddy Fan Club newsletter). It turns out that being a newspaperman isn’t quite as easy as Freddy thought it might be, but with typical aplomb he manages to burn the wires!

    Evvy Hoffmeister is thirteen years old when her family brings her to Loon Lake Sanatorium to get cured of tuberculosis (TB). Evvy is frightened by her new surroundings; the rules to abide are harsh and the nurses equally rigid. But Evvy soon falls into step with the other girls in her ward. There's Sarah, quiet but thoughtful; Pearl, who adores Hollywood glamour; and Dina, whose harshness conceals a deep strength. Together, the girls brave the difficult daily routines. Set in 1940 at a time of political unrest throughout the U.S. and Europe, this thought-provoking novel sheds light on a much-feared worldwide illness. Hundreds of thousands of people died each year of TB, and many ill children were sent away to sanatoriums to hopefully recover.This is a masterful novel—both eloquent and moving—that gives voice to those who fought hard to overcome the illness.

    Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,
    And can't tell where to find them;
    Leave them alone, and they'll come home,
    Bringing their tails behind them.
    Little Bo-Peep fell fast asleep,
    And dreamt she heard them bleating;
    But when she awoke, she found it a joke,
    For they were still all fleeting.
     This beloved nursery rhyme tells a story that is both a bit scary (she lost her sheep!) and funny (they lost their tails!). The poor tiny girl, trying to do a job that is quite hard for her with her short legs, becomes bewildered. But help is there in the shape of an old lady who first plays a trick on her, telling her that her sheep have lost their tails and she must find them and somehow put them back on. The distraught little BoPeep searches everywhere and when she finally does find the missing tails discovers the joke. But all ends well when the old woman tells her she doesn't need to sew them on because they didn't have any tails to begin with. Everyone has a good laugh and BoPeep lovingly hugs each sheep as they 'come home, wagging their tails behind them.'
