Sinossi

Peepolykus bring their exhilarating combination of verbal slapstick, visual surprise and anarchic comedy to Gustave Flaubert's seminal nineteenth-century masterpiece Madame Bovary.

Laugh and cry in equal measure as Emma Bovary chooses the wrong husband. Lose yourself in mesmeric love scenes featuring a procession of devastatingly attractive men. Rail at the fate of women in a patriarchal society, if you will. Prepare yourself for vermin, moustaches, wild animals, lots of French people and a nun.

Written for a bijou cast of four playing multiple roles, The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovarywas a co-production between Peepolykus, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, the Nuffield in Southampton, Bristol Old Vic and the Royal & Derngate in Northampton. It premiered at the Everyman in Liverpool in 2016 before touring to all those other places too.

Like their tremendously popular Hound of the Baskervilles, Peepolykus's Bovary offers abundant opportunities for comedy and slapstick - plus some massive tragedy - to any theatre company or drama group looking for a loving derailment of a classic novel.

Poems on the power of memory and the shading of past into presentIn this enthralling collection, National Book Award finalist and former Poet Laureate of California Carol Muske-Dukes composes a lyrical autobiography, tracing her family history from the Dakota prairie to her new life as a young mother in Los Angeles. In “The Separator,” Muske-Dukes writes of her grandfather, a wheat farmer, winnowing, threshing, planting a future in the deep black soil of Wyndmere, North Dakota. In “Biglietto d’Ingresso,” she recalls a perfect day in Tuscany, spent with her future husband in a town overlooking a wine valley. “August, Los Angeles, Lullaby” is a lulling yet harrowing description of the wonder of a mother holding her newborn child—and her own fragility, encountering mortality—as a hummingbird touches the hourglass of the feeder outside the window . . . then is gone.

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, is an analysis of a beleaguered, multi-layered, and conflicted suitor, trying to reconcile his dichotomy of having a foray of overwhelming ideas juxtaposed with underwhelming execution, in the arena of life and love. It was the poetic debut of the American-born, British poet, T.S Eliot. The poem was originally published in 1915. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is rightly regarded as a poetic classic with timeless themes and undying brilliance.

Woolf's novel defies traditional narrative conventions, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, and delving into the fluid nature of gender and identity, offering a profound exploration of the construction of self and the constraints imposed by societal expectations.
The narrative traverses different historical periods and geographical locations, providing a sweeping panorama of human history and cultural transformation, while also raising questions about the mutable nature of time and the enduring power of art.

An ant to the starsor stars to the ant—which ismore irrelevant?Weekend Jet Skiers—rude to call them idiots, yes, but facts are facts.Clamor of seabirdsas the sun falls—I look upand ten years have passed."—from "Dawn Notebook"Such is the expansive terrain of Seven Notebooks: the world as it is seen, known, imagined, and dreamed; our lives as they are felt, thought, desired, and lived. Written in forms that range from haiku to prose, and in a voice that veers from incantatory to deadpan, these seven poetic sequences offer diverse reflections on language and poetry, time and consciousness, civilization and art—to say nothing of bureaucrats, surfboards, and blue margaritas. Taken collectively, Seven Notebooks composes a season-by-season account of a year in the life of its narrator, from spring in Chicago to summer at the Jersey Shore to winter in Miami Beach. Not a novel in verse, not a poetic journal, but a lyric chronicle, this utterly unique book reclaims territory long abandoned by American poetry, a characteristic ambition of Campbell McGrath, one of the most honored, accessible, and humanistically engaged writers of our time.
