Sinopse

In "Officer and Man," Louis Becke intricately weaves together themes of adventure, identity, and the moral dilemmas faced by individuals in colonial contexts. Set against the backdrop of the South Seas, the novel unfolds through the eyes of an enigmatic naval officer, navigating complex relationships and cultural encounters. Becke's style is vivid and immersive, employing rich descriptive imagery that captures the lush landscapes and intricate social dynamics of the Pacific Islands. This work is not only a tale of personal conflict but also a reflection on the broader implications of colonialism, blending thrilling narrative with deep philosophical inquiries that prompt readers to reflect on their own moral compass. Louis Becke, an Australian author and adventurer, drew inspiration from his own experiences traversing the islands of the Pacific. His firsthand knowledge of the region imbues the novel with authenticity and depth, illuminating the struggles and triumphs of its characters. Becke's own life was marked by the stark realities of colonialism and the search for self amid the tumult of societal expectations, experiences that undoubtedly influenced his poignant storytelling in "Officer and Man." I highly recommend "Officer and Man" to readers who are seeking an engaging literary exploration of colonial life interwoven with deeply human dilemmas. Becke's evocative prose and compelling characterizations invite contemplation and empathy, making this a standout work in the canon of colonial literature. Whether you are drawn to tales of adventure or more profound moral questions, this novel offers a rich and captivating experience.

    The Pendle Witches England 1600's
Book 6 of 7 Anne Redferne
The books are fictionally based on the true names and part facts of seven of the accused witches involved being sentenced to death mostly, although innocent, and is as follows:
Anne Redferne, the gentle daughter of notorious witch Chattox, lived a life overshadowed by her mother's dark reputation in Pendle Forest. A skilled herb gatherer devoted to raising her young daughter Marie, Anne's quiet existence shattered when a neighbor accused her of cursing his crops. Though innocent, Anne was condemned by her mother's damning witchcraft confession and the testimony of child witness Jennet Device. In Lancaster Castle's dungeon, she received a vision: a golden wheat field promising peace beyond suffering. On August 20, 1612, Anne walked silently to the gallows, her final thoughts of the daughter she would never see again. Unlike her defiant mother or wealthy co-accused Alice Nutter, Anne met death with bowed head - a poignant symbol of ordinary lives destroyed by witch hysteria. Her story, often overlooked in the Pendle trials, reveals how fear could transform quiet poverty into "evidence" of witchcraft.
This is the sixth book in a series of seven audiobooks and I do hope you enjoy ,(might not be the appropriate word, this instalment, and it's only $3 dollars.
the initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 minutes plus, called Haunting Elegy, uses flute and harp to set the scene of witches living life as they could. The closing music ends in a sad way, called Melancholy same instrumental at nearly 3 minutes as the fate that befalls these innocent people awaits them.!
The story itself runs to about 25 minutes, and and is narrated in my own voice.
Please let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come!.

What harm could one night of pleasure do?
Cybil Bythesea is imprisoned in a marriage that ended ten years ago. That’s when she fled the cruelty of her husband, Lord Falstone, and took refuge at her father’s estate in Northumberland. Since then, her family’s money has kept the villain at bay, and she’s been able to pursue her creative passion—writing. But freedom, true freedom, has been beyond her grasp.
Except for her clandestine liaisons with Will.
Will Chisolm is haunted by the past, the tragedy of his family’s eviction from their ancestral Highland farm, then his own foolish descent into political radicalism. Even now that he’s gained wealth and respectability as the manager of a set of spinning mills in Glasgow, he’s burdened with more responsibility and guilt than anyone knows.
But there’s something about Cybil—a lightness, a kinship that, at least temporarily, makes all Will’s troubles fade away. It’s a dangerous game. Cybil is his employer’s sister, the wife of his political enemy and for the last four years, his lover.
She’s also with child. Will’s child. And their world, their lives, will never be the same.
“...an achingly beautiful world of love, desperation, intrigue, a reckoning with the past, and a twisty, emotional journey. I loved it from start to finish and continue to think about it days later in the best possible ways.” - Reader review
A Radical Affair is the first book in the Darnalay Castle Series, although all of the books in the series can be read as standalones. It contains strong language and several spicy open-door scenes.

There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

Before the bullet, before the stage, before the assassination that shocked a nation—there was a family.
Booth is a sweeping, intimate portrait of one of the most infamous names in American history, told not through the eyes of the assassin, but through the siblings, parents, and complex legacy that shaped him. Set in 19th-century America, this audiobook dives deep into the dramatic, often chaotic Booth household: a father hailed as a theatrical genius, a mother holding a family together, and children grappling with identity, ambition, and loyalty in a country on the verge of civil war.
