Summary

The Brazilian football team is believed to have played its first official match in 1914 against English club side Exeter City, which they won 2-0. Their first full international was against Argentina the same year. Since then they have become the most successful international football team in history. 'The English invented it, the Brazilians perfected it' is a phrase often heard in Brazil and the side has backed this up by winning the FIFA World Cup a record five times.

The powers-that-be in auto racing in the 1920s, namely the American Automobile Association's Contest Board, prohibited everyone who wasn't a white male from the sport. Dewey Gaston, a black man who went by the name Rajo Jack, broke into the epicenter of racing in California, refusing to let the pervasive racism of his day stop him from competing against entire fields of white drivers. In The Brown Bullet, Bill Poehler uncovers the life of a long-forgotten trailblazer and the great lengths he took to even get on the track, and in the end, tells how Rajo Jack proved to a generation that a black man could compete with some of the greatest white drivers of his era, wining some of the biggest races of the day.

    Developing Wicket Keepers

Wicket Keeping is an art and, like any art there is a requirement to spend quality time practising this craft to make the outcome(s) consistent. The lack of time that is allowed for wicket keeping specific coaching in coach education programmes is reflected by the small amount of time that is spent coaching young keepers in junior club sessions. Generally this is not the fault of coaches but highlights the lack of opportunity they are given to develop an understanding about this specialised position. The aim of this book is to give coaches (at club and county age group level) a guide as how to set up and organise basic wicket keeping drills and activities. This resource is not designed to create more work but to be used as a 'quick and easy' way to help young wicket keepers develop their games further.
