Sinopsis

In "The Tale of Curly-Tail," Laura Rountree Smith masterfully weaves a charming narrative that explores themes of identity, friendship, and self-acceptance through the whimsical adventures of its titular character, a spirited and uniquely charismatic animal. Smith employs a lyrical and engaging literary style, rich in vivid imagery and playful language, that captivates both young readers and adults alike. The book is set against a backdrop reminiscent of classic children's literature, yet it incorporates contemporary sensibilities that resonate with today'Äôs audiences, making it a delightful addition to the genre. Laura Rountree Smith, an accomplished author and educator, draws on her extensive background in childhood development and storytelling. Her passion for nurturing creativity in children, coupled with her own experiences growing up in a small town, informs the relatable journey of Curly-Tail as a quest for belonging and self-discovery. Smith's understanding of the formative power of narratives for young minds is evident in her ability to craft a story that is both entertaining and enlightening. I highly recommend "The Tale of Curly-Tail" to parents, educators, and anyone who cherishes heartwarming tales that stimulate imagination and foster empathy. This book is not merely a tale for children but a profound exploration of the importance of embracing one's uniqueness, making it a timeless classic that will resonate across generations.

This is a truth about growing up.

Once in your life, sometime after your first memory but before you can drive a car, something is going to happen to you that doesn’t happen to anyone else you know. It might be something good. It might be something bad, or special, or funny, or shocking.

For Millie, it’s something really sad. Lolo, her neighbors’ infant daughter, dies—unexpectedly, suddenly, inexplicably—on the night Millie babysits.

There’s nothing she could have done. There’s nothing she can do now. So how does she go on?

She does what you’ll do. She finds her way.

This poignant and profound coming-of-age story portrays a tragic experience of responsibility and its poisonous flip side: guilt. Cathartic and important, it’s an honest and empathetic portrait of a girl at her most vulnerable—a mess of grief,
love, and ultimately, acceptance—who must reckon with those most difficult of demons: death … and life.

Skylar is convinced that life for her as an eleven-year-old is way harder than for any adult, including her cranky principal, Ms. Callus. The only good part about being eleven is being a massive K-pop fan, even if her parents do ban her from all things AZ8, the best K-pop boy band in the world. When a freak accident causes Skylar and Ms. Callus to switch bodies, Skylar finds herself trying to convince the world of AZ8's supremacy, going viral in a K-pop dance video, and somehow running her school, all while stuck in a seventy-one-year-old's body. And then she gets the chance to meet AZ8 in real life. With the help of her bestie, Dana, and her own wits and passion, Skylar must decide whether her K-pop dream come true is worth risking being stuck as an old lady forever. A feel-good tale singing with laugh-out-loud moments, Skylar and the K-Pop Principal is a joyful and uplifting story of friendship, fandom, and chasing your dreams.

A Traveler in Time by August Derleth - You can't always escape evils by running away from them... but it may help!
"Tell me what time is," said Harrigan one late summer afternoon in a Madison Street bar. "I'd like to know."
"A dimension," I answered. "Everybody knows that."
"All right, granted. I know space is a dimension and you can move forward or back in space. And, of course, you keep on aging all the time."
    "Elementary," I said.
"But what happens if you can move backward or forward in time? Do you age or get younger, or do you keep the status quo?"
"I'm not an authority on time, Tex. Do you know anyone who traveled in time?"
Harrigan shrugged aside my question. "That was the thing I couldn't get out of Vanderkamp, either. He presumed to know everything else."
    "Vanderkamp?"
"He was another of those strange people a reporter always runs into. Lived in New York—downtown, near the Bowery. Man of about forty, I'd say, but a little on the old-fashioned side. Dutch background, and hipped on the subject of New Amsterdam, which, in case you don't know, was the original name of New York City."
"Don't mind my interrupting," I cut in. "But I'm not quite straight on what Vanderkamp has to do with time as dimension."
"Oh, he was touched on the subject. He claimed to travel in it. The fact is, he invented a time-traveling machine."
