Summary

A sea monster has triggered alarms worldwide, and an expedition is finally organized to capture it. The expedition includes the renowned professor of Natural History, Pierre Aronnax, his assistant Bastienne, and the expert Canadian harpooner Ned Land, aboard the American frigate Abraham Lincoln. The monster turns out to be a remarkable submarine commanded by Captain Nemo, and the need to keep this secret poses a serious problem for the captain regarding the release of the three main characters. Captain Nemo, a wise man tormented and disillusioned with the human race, embodies both libertarian individualism and an exaggerated sense of justice, undoubtedly making him one of the archetypes of the adventure novel genre. His presence alone justifies the distinguished place that "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" holds within the genre.

Yet, the novel offers much more: excitement, knowledge, suspense, unforgettable characters, and unexpected twists... It stands as a milestone in adventure literature and a boundless source of inspiration for future speculative fiction. This Illustrated Youth Edition of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" is the perfect introduction for young readers at home to Verne’s work, and also an excuse for adults to swiftly revisit a classic of adventure literature.

Three brothers...three destinies...three chances to fail.
One country hangs in the balance.
Peacetime in Etria is no time to become a knight. War lies in the past and the future is for growing new things. Swords become plows and soldiers become farmers, artists, shop owners, and poets. Everyone knows that training for a war that may never come is a waste of time, but for the three grandsons of the greatest war hero in history, knighthood isn't a choice; it's destiny.
The three inseparable boys set off on three very different roads to knighthood. The eldest travels the straight path. The middle boy follows the crooked way of the rebel. The youngest...he follows the trail of legend.
When war returns all too soon, the boys will be tested. They will hold in their hands the lives of the most powerful and important people of all of Etria. If they fail, their country may fall into darkness and horror.
But these boys were born to be knights, to protect their king, land, and people no matter the cost to themselves. In the end, they will give their all, but will it be enough?

Paul Robeson’s resounding bass-baritone voice captivated audiences, especially when singing the spirituals he had heard at church and folk songs he had gathered from many countries. But Robeson was more than an interpreter of song. He was passionate about the injustices found in the United States and throughout the world and refused to keep quiet. As a stage and film actor, he fought against stereotypical roles and widespread racism. Labeled a communist during the height of the Cold War, Robeson was stripped of his U.S. passport and found himself unable to earn a living. But Robeson never gave up or
    gave in.

Acclaimed nonfiction writer Susan Goldman Rubin conducted extensive research, visiting key Robeson sites and working with noted Robeson scholars, to bring to life one of the most important voices in American history.
