Sinossi

Within the last eight years—the precise date I purposely omit—I I was ordered by my physician, my health being in an unsatisfactory state, to change my residence to one upon the sea-coast; and accordingly, I took a house for a year in a fashionable watering-place, at a moderate distance from the city in which I had previously resided, and connected with it by a railway.

Charles Dickens was a writer and social critic who created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime, and by the twentieth century critics and scholars had recognised him as a literary genius. His novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity.OUR VESTRY: We have the glorious privilege of being always in hot water if we like. We are a shareholder in a Great Parochial British Joint Stock Bank of Balderdash. We have a Vestry in our borough, and can vote for a vestryman-might even be a vestryman, mayhap, if we were inspired by a lofty and noble ambition. Which we are not.

Lucy Maud Montgomery (November 30, 1874 - April 24, 1942), published as L. M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning in 1908 with Anne of Green Gables. The book was an immediate success. The title character, orphan Anne Shirley, made Montgomery famous in her lifetime and gave her an international following.Anna's Love Letters:"Are you going to answer Gilbert's letter tonight, Anna?" asked Alma Williams, standing in the pantry doorway, tall, fair, and grey-eyed, with the sunset light coming down over the dark firs, through the window behind her, and making a primrose nimbus around her shapely head.

Jessie Douglas Kerruish was born in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, County Durham in 1884.

Little is known about the author’s life and to a large extent her work remains either neglected or out of favour.

Her literary career got off to a very bright start in 1917 when she won the Hodder & Stoughton First Novel Prize for ‘Miss Haroun Al-Raschid’. Five years later came her seminal work ‘The Undying Monster’, which today is still regarded as a macabre werewolf classic.

Throughout her career she contributed short stories to such popular periodicals as Novel, Lady's and Weekly Tale-Teller. One of the best was ‘The Wonderful Tune’ and whilst the title sounds light and airy her dark imagination riddles the narrative. Many of her works were set in exotic locations from North Africa to the Middle East.

Her output was small, limited to two collections of short stories and several novels.

During the 1930’s severe and debilitating migraines prevented her from working for any length of time and all she could muster was contributions to anthologies.

Jessie Douglas Kerruish died in Hove, Sussex in 1949, in obscurity.

Essentially the start of Dazai's career, Schoolgirl gained notoriety for its ironic and inventive use of language. Now it illuminates the prevalent social structures of a lost time, as well as the struggle of the individual against them–a theme that occupied Dazai's life both personally and professionally. This new translation preserves the playful language of the original and offers the reader a new window into the mind of one of the greatest Japanese authors of the 20th century.

“Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.”
As it gets harder for the older siblings Miss Marilla Cuthbert and Mr. Matthew Cuthbert to take care of their farm on Prince Edward Island, they decide to adopt a young boy to help them out. Meanwhile a misunderstanding occurs and instead of sending a boy, the orphanage sends them the eleven-year-old spunky Anne Shirley instead. Initially Marilla and Matthew plan to send Anne back to the orphanage, but they soon realize that they need her as much as she needs them.
Since its publication in 1908, Anne of Green Gables has been translated into at least 36 languages and sold more than 50 million copies.
