Summary

Cloud observability is complex and costly due to the use of hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure as well as various Azure tools, hampering IT teams’ ability to monitor and analyze issues. The authors distill their years of experience with Microsoft to share the strategic insights and practical skills needed to optimize performance, ensure reliability, and navigate the dynamic landscape of observability on Azure.
You’ll get an in-depth understanding of cloud observability and Azure Monitor basics, before getting to grips with the configuration and optimization of data sources and pipelines for effective monitoring. You’ll learn about advanced data analysis techniques using metrics and the Kusto Query Language (KQL) for your logs, design proactive incident response strategies with automated alerts, and visualize reports via dashboards. Using hands-on examples and best practices, you’ll explore the integration of Azure Monitor with Azure Arc and third-party tools, such as Datadog, Elastic Stack, or Dynatrace. You’ll also implement artificial intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps) and secure monitoring for hybrid and multi-cloud environments, aligned with emerging trends.
By the end of this book, you’ll be able to develop robust and cost-optimized observability solutions for monitoring your Azure infrastructure and apps using Azure Monitor.

Even though ferrets are relatively new to the pet world, these charming weasels have been human companions for thousands of years, as author Karen Dale Dustman shares in the opening of Ferrets. The first chapter of the book ("A Nod to Ferret History") paints a fascinating portrait of ferrets' place in human and natural history (who knew they were related to minks?). Since ferrets aren't legal in all states (or cities and counties, depending on local statutes), potential owners are advised to do their homework before purchasing a ferret. (A complete chapter on legal and regulatory concerns can be found at the end of the book.) The chapter "Choosing a Ferret Companion" offers solid advice about selecting a healthy ferret, where to purchase, and owner considerations such as spaying/neutering and de-scenting. The author has written two excellent chapters about acclimating the new ferret to the home and living with this clever, fun-loving critter. These chapters detail the selection of the best cage, litter box options, feeding, ferret-proofing the home for safety, grooming, and daily care. The most important chapter in the book focuses on training the naturally mischievous ferret from developing unacceptable habits (including nipping and squirming). A bright, well-mannered ferret can also be trained to use a litter box, walk on a harness and leash, and perform tricks. The chapter also discusses strategies for dealing with a lost ferret and the importance of microchipping. Keeping the ferret healthy is the subject of "Medical Basics," a chapter that covers choosing a veterinarian, routine checkups, vaccinations, rabies, heartworm, and ferret-specific ailments. Sidebars on warning signs and first aid will prove especially helpful in emergencies. The appendices of the book include hints for photographing the ferret and lists of clubs, organizations, and websites. Glossary of terms and index included.

The software industry is regarded as one of the most creative and dynamic industries in the world. At the same time, sheltering software through copyright and patent law has been a major point of contention for the past 40 years. This doctoral thesis aims to provide new insights to this discussion. Through the use of sociological methodology, it supplies the necessary basic scientific reasearch regarding how software is developed and commercialized nowadays. Based on these findings, it then legally evaluates to what extent copyright and patent law are able to reflect these structures and determines how an optimal protection scope for computer programs could look like today. This doctoral thesis on one hand offers novel insights and points of view on existing legal doctrines. It further acknowledges as well as legally qualifies some prevailing trends in the software industry, such as Scrum and continuous delivery, that have so far been largely unaddressed by copyright and patent law.
