Sinossi

The late nineteenth century American humorist John Kendrick Bangs was an inventive satirical writer, who inspired the genre of Bangsian fantasy. Famous works like ‘A House-Boat on the Styx’ employed a fantastical premise, involving the use of famous literary or historical individuals and their interactions in the Afterlife. In the popular magazines ‘Puck’ and ‘Life’, Bangs created numerous hilarious characters, including Jimmieboy, the Idiot, Alice in Blunderland, the Unwiseman and a popular Raffles spin-off series — all revealing his important contribution to the development of humorist literature. For the first time in publishing history, this comprehensive eBook presents Bangs’ complete fictional works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. As the owner of Licked, an eclectic ice creamery and bar, Ryleigh Phillips doesn't have time for that love stuff. Serving up Nibble My Nuts sundaes and Drunken Sailor boozy shakes are as close to an orgasmic affair as she's had in months thanks to her expanding empire—until the night of her ten-year high-school reunion.

When Ryleigh's crush, gorgeous ex-football god Cameron Mathis, comes streaking into her life (literally—streaking), she begins to wonder if she really can have it all.

Wouldn't it just figure that the moment you think life is perfect is when it falls spectacularly apart?

Enter Hunter Morgan, the contractor in charge of Licked's renovations. Devastatingly handsome, and a smartass to boot, he's got his eyes on Ryleigh from the moment he finds her passed out on his couch (yeah, that's a long story). There's just one tiny complication—he happens to be Cameron's best friend.

The heartwarming and hilarious part-memoir, part-guide from comedian and father-of-six Ashley Blaker, on parenting, adoption and raising children with special needs.
‘A funny, irreverent and loving book’ Daily Express
‘We had such a variety of experts visiting our home, we really needed a revolving door. All these professionals would watch our son playing while shaking their heads and making tutting sounds, like builders considering a bad job you wanted them to fix. “Tut tut tut. No speech, disordered social skills, sensory issues. This is going to cost you!!”’
Ashley Blaker has six children, three of whom have an SEN diagnosis. Between endless meetings, countless therapists, public humiliations, failed playdates, surreal monologues and occasional violence, it’s certainly not what anyone would call a ‘normal’ household – but would he want it any other way?
Normal Schmormal is part-memoir, part how-to guide, highlighting the many challenges, as well as the hugely rewarding elements, of parenting children with additional needs. Written with humour, compassion and a lot of love, it’s a must-read for parents, carers and teachers of children with SEN, either looking for a bit of support or in need of a very big laugh.
In Normal Schmormal, Ashley Blaker, a father and comedian, takes us on a humorous and heartwarming journey through the challenges and rewards of raising children with special needs. This latest autobiography is a must-read for parents, carers, and teachers alike, offering a unique perspective on fatherhood, family, and fostering relationships with children with disabilities.
For fans of Eliza Fricker (Nurturing Your Autistic Young Person), Dr. Naomi Fisher (The Teenager's Guide to Burnout), Ellie Middleton (How to be You), Lisa C. Qualls (Faith, Hope, & Connection), and Catherine L. Abbott (Mindful Parenting for Autistic Children).

In the short story "Bad Weather" by Anton Chekhov, a rainy summer day sets the stage for a series of misunderstandings and emotional turmoil within a family. The story revolves around Kvashin, a lawyer, his wife Nadyezhda Filippovna, and his mother-in-law. As the rain pours outside, Kvashin stays in the town due to his aversion to bad weather. Left alone, Nadyezhda and her mother spend their time playing cards and worrying about Kvashin's well-being. The mother-in-law is concerned about Kvashin's absence and believes that the weather is a punishment from God. Nadyezhda expresses her worry for her husband, lamenting the fact that he is alone without any domestic help in their town apartment. They both long for his presence and decide that Nadyezhda will travel to the town the next day to check on him. "Bad Weather" portrays the complexities of human relationships and the fragility of trust. It highlights how external circumstances, such as bad weather, can influence emotions and actions, leading to misunderstandings and deception. Chekhov's masterful storytelling captures the nuances of human behavior and the power dynamics within a family, leaving the reader pondering the consequences of such deceitful acts. Read in English, unabridged.
