Sinopsis

In 'Locusts and Wild Honey' by John Burroughs, readers are taken on a journey through the natural world, as the author explores the intricacies of nature and its connection to humanity. Burroughs' writing style is descriptive and immersive, engaging readers in the beauty and wonder of the environment around them. Set in the late 19th century, the book reflects Burroughs' time as a naturalist and his deep appreciation for the wilderness. Through vivid descriptions of landscapes and wildlife, the author highlights the importance of harmonizing with nature rather than exploiting it. John Burroughs, a prominent naturalist and essayist, drew inspiration from his experiences exploring the American wilderness. His close observation of plants, animals, and ecosystems is reflected in 'Locusts and Wild Honey,' making it a unique and insightful read for those interested in environmental literature. Burroughs' passion for nature shines through in his writing, inviting readers to appreciate the natural world in a new light. I highly recommend 'Locusts and Wild Honey' to readers who enjoy nature writing and want to connect with the environment on a deeper level. The Communist Manifesto was conceived as an outline of the basic beliefs of the Communist movement. The authors believed that the European Powers were universally afraid of the nascent movement, and were condemning as "communist," people or activities that did not actually conform to what the Communists believed. This Manifesto, then, became a manual for their beliefs. In it we find Marx and Engel's rehearsal of the idea that Capital has stolen away the work of the artisan and peasant by building up factories to produce goods cheaply. The efficiency of Capital depends, then, on the wage laborers who staff the factories and how little they will accept in order to have work. This concentrates power and money in a Bourgeois class that profits from the disunity of workers (Proletarians), who only receive a subsistence wage.If workers unite in a class struggle against the bourgeois, using riot and strikes as weapons, they will eventually overthrow the bourgeois and replace them as a ruling class. Communists further believe in and lay out a system of reforms to transform into a classless, stateless society, thus distinguishing themselves from various flavors of Socialism, which would be content to have workers remain the ruling class after the revolution. The Manifesto caused a huge amount of discussion for its support for a forcible overthrow of the existing politics and society.

A Selection from RumiEdited by Nathan Haskell Dole and Belle Walker.Translations by E. H. Whinfield and Reynold H. Nicholson.Narrated by Denis Daly.Jelalu-'d-Din, today know simply as Rumi, was the greatest mystical poet of the golden age of classical Persian literature. In later years, he renounced the world and founded a famous order of Dervishes called the Maulavis. He was born at Balkh in 1207, and died in Konya in 1273.Rumi summed up his philosophy as follows: "Shun the company of the base and foolish, and consort with the noble-hearted and the pious. Verily the best man is he who doeth good to men, and the best speech is that which is short and guideth men aright. Praise be to God who is the Only God." Rumi's largest work, the Masnavi is a six-book miscellany of anecdotes and stories derived from Islamic scripture and popular stories, and dates from the final years of the poet's life. It is considered one of the most significant expositions of Sufism. This recording contains 12 sections from the Masnavi and 17 assorted poems.Production copyright 2024 Voices of Today

Rachael Hanel tells her story here, revealing both the deep humanity and the extraordinary circumstances of Camilla Hall's life. Her path from her Minnesota home to her final, radical SLA family featured years as an artist and activist—in welfare offices, political campaigns, union organizing, culminating in a love affair that would be her introduction to the SLA. Through research and interviews, Hanel pieces together Camilla's transformation.Camilla Hall's story is of interest for what it reveals about the forces of radicalization. But as Hanel ventures ever further into Camilla's past, her book becomes an intriguing, disturbing, and ultimately deeply moving journey into the dark side of America's promise.Contains mature themes.
