Sinopsis

A series of grisly murders coincide with the arrival of a boy’s new neighbor—a strange little girl—in this international bestselling gothic vampire tale.

It is autumn 1981 when inconceivable horror comes to Blackeberg, a suburb in Sweden. The body of a teenager is found, emptied of blood, the murder rumored to be part of a ritual killing. Twelve-year-old Oskar is personally hoping that revenge has come at long last—revenge for the bullying he endures at school, day after day.

But the murder is not the most important thing on his mind. A new girl has moved in next door—a girl who has never seen a Rubik’s Cube before, but who can solve it at once. There is something wrong with her, though, something odd. And she only comes out at night . . .

"With impeccable inflections and tones, El-Attar's narration embodies the quirky investigator and those who surround her. She personifies both the place and the people, making them come alive. Listeners will imagine they're traversing Cairo through the deep, dark night. This is a perfect listen for those who are short on time but want a thrilling audiobook." — AudioFile MagazineEgypt, 1912. In an alternate Cairo infused with the otherworldly, the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities investigate disturbances between the mortal and the (possibly) divine. What starts off as an odd suicide case for Special Investigator Fatma el-Sha’arawi leads her through the city’s underbelly as she encounters rampaging ghouls, saucy assassins, clockwork angels, and plot that could unravel time itself, in P. Djèlí Clark's Tor.Com Original, A Dead Djinn in Cairo."Suehyla El-Attar’s narration has the vocal quality of slightly roughened silk, a gorgeously textured pleasure for the ear." -- Locus

The demons are after us. The ECU is after us. What are the odds that we'll ever stop them from hunting us down?

Very low. Good thing I'm all up for impossible challenges.

When the demons came into the ECU's "research" facility where we were being held prisoner, the strange dragon around my hand came to life, giving me a way to end those suckers for good. We might have made it out alive, but a lot of witches like us didn't. Instead, they were kidnapped by the demons.

We can sugar-coat it all day long, but we all know it was my fault. I brought those demons to the facility. Now, I have to set those witches free.

With a Hedge witch by my side, whose name is on the ECU's most-wanted list right under mine, I plan to claw my way through those demons until every person they kidnapped is set free, and until the ECU stops trying to wipe us off the face of the earth.

It's time the whole world knew that we're the new witches in town, and we're here to stay. Another good thing is that pretty much nothing went as planned, or this story would have been boring as hell.

    Contains mature themes.
