Summary

Emma is a comic novel by Jane Austen, first published in December 1815, about the perils of misconstrued romance. The main character, Emma Woodhouse, is described in the opening paragraph as "handsome, clever, and rich" but is also rather spoiled. Prior to starting the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like."

A “profoundly raw and gripping” novel of a girl’s life of hardship in rural Mississippi (The Baltmore Sun).

As a child, Logic Harris survived a fall from a tree—an accident that precipitated her transformation into a young girl lost in her own world. Logic's mother has secretly wished that Logic had not survived, and she now ignores the increasingly apparent evidence of the aberrant attention Logic's father bestows upon his daughter in her adolescence.

As her mother retreats into her work as a neighborhood midwife and Logic's father collapses into paranoia, Logic is left to navigate alone what she scarcely understands. In inspired prose, stunning in its imaginative authority, Logic is a chilling allegory about the dangers of silence and a searing portrait of a girl lost in shame and fear, and a family and community too scarred by their own wounds to save her.

“Steeped in religious, surreal imagery and references to ordering principles—atoms, alphabets, life's basic materials—Vernon’s abstract language asks precise questions about the chances for survival in a lawless world.”—Booklist

    Who is The Knock-Knock Man?

A ghost, a killer, or simply a creepy urban legend?

her life. Now, after the death of her former colleague, Ernie, Ali must uncover the truth about a past that won’t stay buried.

But then Ali meets Will, a teenage ghost hunter who claims to have evidence on film…

Marcus taps his foot as he looks around his 18-year old daughter's room.

"You know, I liked the last three things you showed me," he calls to her. "I don't think I need to see anything else."

"Oh, but daddy, this one looks so cute!" Katelyn calls back.

So Marcus, nodding, waits for his daughter to come back out to model more clothes for him.

Katelyn finally comes out and her daddy looks at her in her new clothes.

"What do you think?" she asks, excited. She spins around so he can see all of it.

"Wow," Marcus says, nodding. "You look really good. I mean it."

Katelyn flashes him a bright smile.

"Is this…" Marcus asks, coming forward. Before Katelyn can say anything he's right up next to her, grabbing the material of her shirt, leaning his head down to give it a close inspection.

"There's a hint of blue in here," he declares, and when he straightens up Katelyn is all too aware of how close he is to her.

"Yeah," she says, swallowing. "I, um…I know."

Marcus looks down at his little girl and she looks back up at him.

Marcus can't help but look his daughter up and down. She's got an amazing body, and such an open mind. She smiles when his eyes come back up to hers.

"You know," Marcus says, feeling his shaft stirring in his pants already. "I hope you don't mind me saying, but you would be amazing at sex."

Katelyn pulls in a breath and bites down on her lower lip.

    "I wouldn't know," she says. "I'm still a virgin."

"Well then," Marcus says. "We'd better do something to fix that."

Without another word Katelyn wraps her arms around her daddy and plants her lips onto his. He wraps his arms around his little girl, his erection already present. Katelyn moans as she feels it push up against her, and she reaches down to grab it, breathing heavily out through her nose.
