Summary

Especially appealing to anyone interested in the visual arts, this new collection is the result of collaboration between poet Jackie Wills and painter Jane Fordham. The poems have a touch as deft as the seamstresses and other craftspeople who populate the book, before pulling out into the wider worlds of mythology, folklore and the visceral routine of daily life.

"She is at her best when most surprising, bringing flashes of the extraordinary to the everyday." – Christina Patterson, The Independent

"Her talent for thoughtful... observation, accompanied by brisk injections of the personal and the strikingly real, is indisputably clear." – Kate North
Jackie Wills's most recent poetry collection is Commandments (Arc, 2007). Her first, Powder Tower (Arc, 1995), was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize and was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, while Party (Leviathan, 2000) was acclaimed by Ruth Padel in the Independent on Sunday. She has been a Poet in Residence at the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival, and her work appears on a dress by designer Helen Storey, in the animated film Alphabetic (2006), and on a path in Farnham by potter Julian Belmonte. She lives in Brighton.

Book Four of Vergil's Aeneid follows the tragic love and death of Dido, Queen of Carthage - an unfortunate casualty in Aeneas' fated quest to find a new home for the Trojans and become a founder of the Romans.
This audiobook is narrated in Latin according to the Calabrese Classical Reconstruction, with careful attention to historical features such as phonemic vowel quantities, geminated consonants, and nasalised final m. The narration is delivered with drama and emotion, pausing at major sense units or mid-line caesuras rather than at line boundaries, to enhance comprehensibility. The delivery is also grounded in a rhythmic pulse for better contrast between light and heavy syllables so that the listener can perceive some of the varied metrical effects employed in Vergil's hexameters.

Greekling, the much-anticipated debut poetry collection by Kostya Tsolakis, celebrates and commemorates damaged and rejected Greek bodies, be they of flesh and blood, made of marble, or natural bodies. In intertwining Greek culture, history and poetic influences with the contemporary queer experience, this collection is perceptive, lyrical, and deeply evocative of time and place. From an Athenian childhood to a closeted adolescence in the shadow of the AIDS epidemic, towards sexual self-discovery, maturity and freedom – Tsolakis charts the pursuit of unconditional happiness.
These poems explore queer joy on dance floors, darkrooms and bedsits, but also the risks of crossing strangers' thresholds or in encountering the violent machismo and hypermasculine expectations of the society you grow up in. And ever-present through the collection is Athens – the city the poet once turned his back on at eighteen but has come to love again. Moving between lament and celebration, Greekling reflects on a changing and often misrepresented country, the nature of motherlands and mother tongues; it is a voyage out – and a return.
