Beschreibung

2003. Mazrat Prison, Iraq. Previously one of Saddam's most notorious torture houses, where more than 10,000 people died, it is now under Allied command.
Nassir works here, translating for the American interrogators. He's local, pro-Western, determined to bring liberal values to his country and is about to get married to Zoya, his sweetheart. But when he is recognised by Faisal, new prisoner and psychotic supporter of the old regime, his life becomes a living hell.
Born out of Henry Naylor's own experiences of a visit to Bagram Airbase in 2003, The Collector is a compelling tale of murder, evil and betrayal set in occupied Iraq, part of the Arabian Nightmares trilogy. One of the most highly-acclaimed shows at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival, it won a Scotsman Fringe First Award, which was followed by a sold-out run at the Arcola Theatre.
'tells the tragedy of a part of recent history we would rather leave behind but have to hear – an Arabian nightmare that is gripping to the last moment' - A Younger Theatre
'Outstanding new writing… first class' - Scotsman

This program is read by the author. An incisive new collection of poetry on political and contemporary themesI’m made of murderers I’m madeOf nobodies and immigrants and the poorand a whole / Family the mother’sliver and her lungsIn The Gilded Auction Block, the acclaimed poet Shane McCrae considers the present moment in America on its own terms as well as for what it says about the American project and Americans themselves. In the audiobook’s four sections, McCrae alternately responds directly to Donald Trump and contextualizes him historically and personally, exploding the illusions of freedom of both black and white Americans. A moving, incisive, and frightening exploration of both the legacy and the current state of white supremacy in this country, The Gilded Auction Block is an audiobook about the present that reaches into the past and stretches toward the future.

Barrett began writing love poems in his early 20's. He is a distant relative of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and when introduced to her work became immediately inspired. This book is comprised of poems Barrett has written over the past 40 years. They are both love poems and inspirational poems which he hopes will be enjoyed by readers of all ages. Many of the love poems were dedicated to his first real love, Lynn, and others written to his late wife, Patricia to whom he was married for 37 years. Some of the poetry is lyrical and some prose. His hope is that you will be touched by the words, perhaps warming your heart and those around you, whether remembering past or current loves, friends and family. This book is meant to awaken your passion for life and the emotions that you have deep inside, and even perhaps "the things you meant to say."
