With a sharp wit and an incisive eye on the absurd, this collection traverses the landscape of the human condition, magnifying the follies and foibles of its time with an irreverent flair. Graced with a melange of literary styles, each piece complements the narrative of the human comedy, with standout compositions embodying the tragicomic tone that challenges societal conventions. The anthology showcases the profound talents of George Jean Nathan and Henry Louis Mencken, pivotal figures renowned for their critical acumen and incisive social commentary. Exploring My Limits is a W. F. Howes Audio Original, written and recorded by Dwayne Fields: adventurer, explorer, presenter and the first black British person to reach the magnetic north pole.

As a young child in wild Jamaica, Dwayne Fields loved both nature and wildlife. Yet after moving to the UK at the age of six, his formative years were in the concrete jungle of inner-city London, where he became a victim of both knife and gun crime. In 2010, following a life-threatening incident, Dwayne made the decision to change his path, and his life, forever.

Dwayne set himself the challenge of becoming the first black British person to reach the magnetic North Pole. Upon doing so he was invited to Buckingham Palace, joining other polar explorers and adventurers at a reception to mark the centenary of Scott’s expedition to the South Pole.

His drive to engage and enthuse a new generation with our natural spaces, the climate challenges we face, and adventure, have led to Dwayne working on a variety of projects with household names such as Will Smith, Bear Grylls, Ellie Simons and Tim Peak. He is dedicated to inspiring young, underprivileged people to explore the ‘great outdoors’ – and in doing so push past society’s expectations of them and smash their own self-imposed boundaries.
In a series of frank and insightful conversations – with people ranging from fellow mould-breakers to world-famous explorers – Dwayne questions where those limits are, why they are in place, and what we can do to break them down in order to improve and change lives.

    Dwayne speaks to:
    •	Adebayo Akinfenwa – a professional footballer told he was ‘the wrong size’ to ever make it
    •	Ben Fogle – the renowned explorer talks about the importance of being out in nature
    •	Maya-Rose Craig (aka Birdgirl) – the British-Bangladeshi ornithologist and author talks about her VME initiative Black2Nature and growing up not seeing ‘faces like mine’
Plus more people he has encountered in his journey to inspire underprivileged youth to transform their lives.

    About the author
Dwayne Fields is an acclaimed explorer and the UK’s Chief Scout. Amongst other accolades, Dwayne’s TV series Endurance: Race to the Pole with Ben Fogle was nominated in the 2024 BAFTA awards, and Dwayne has been awarded the City of London’s highest honour, ‘The Freedom of the City of London’ by the Lord Mayor for his work with young people.

'Be careful what you wish for,' wrote Aesop, 'lest it come true.' Debra Dank had long been desperate to visit the National Archives, to paint a fuller picture of her family, to add flesh to the name-bones and the few precious stories she possessed. What she discovered would shatter everything she thought she knew about her family and her past. She had been aware of her father's five siblings, some of whom had died before she could come to know them, but there were always whispers and gaps and silences. Certainly, her parents had experiences that affected how Debra grew up, but hers seemed to be one of the very few Aboriginal families who had escaped having children stolen, who had viewed this horror from a seemingly safer distance. But the information she uncovered revealed that her paternal grandmother had given birth to ten children. Four had been taken from her.Ankami is written from the perspective of those left behind, those who search always for the faces of stolen and lost Aboriginal children, now known only through a few cruel, thoughtless words written by a violent pastoral manager and a paternalistic colonial administrator, a footnote in a yellowed letter. This is a story about absences and the secrets that come with them, about unknown but somehow still present family. It is a story about what those speaking silences may be trying to tell as families sit around fires at night or celebrate together at a festive table. It is a story about the lost opportunity to grow with aunts and dads, the knowledge not shared and learned, the memories not made and a love that must remain one-sided and yearning.Ankami is a book like no other, a searing, unforgettable and deeply human account of sorrow and incomprehensible loss, and the essential power of memory.

This book contains the following four titles:
    - The Cereal Killer: The invention of breakfast cereal marked a turning point in modern eating habits, blending health-conscious innovation with industrial progress. During the late 19th century, many Americans consumed heavy, meat-based breakfasts, which were criticized by health reformers for contributing to widespread digestive issues and lethargy. It was against this backdrop that breakfast cereal was born—a light, convenient, and nutritious alternative that would revolutionize morning meals.
    - The Millennial Methuselah: The story of the woman destined for a millennium begins in an unassuming town, far removed from the glare of the modern world. Born in an era where tradition met the dawn of technological innovation, her arrival into the world was marked by a profound sense of wonder. Family and friends often recalled the unusual calmness that surrounded her birth, as if the universe had whispered its secrets into her soul.
    - Perplexing Passings: Unsolved mysteries hold a unique and enduring fascination, inviting us into a world where questions linger and definitive answers seem perpetually out of reach. These enigmas, spanning unexplained deaths, puzzling disappearances, and baffling phenomena, captivate our imagination by defying the order and logic we strive to impose on life. Each unresolved case becomes more than a story; it transforms into a puzzle that teases the intellect and stirs the emotions.
    - The Unreachable Riches: Throughout history, the allure of hidden treasure has captured the human imagination like few other pursuits. Tales of vast riches buried beneath shifting sands, concealed within uncharted jungles, or locked away in remote mountain fortresses have been passed down through generations.

In September of 1990, in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, sixteen-year-old Lisa Pruett was on her way to a midnight tryst with her boyfriend, when she was viciously stabbed to death only thirty feet from the boy's home.

The murder cast a palpable gloom over the upscale community and sparked accusations, theories, and rumors among Lisa's friends and peers. Together they wove a damning narrative that circled back to a likely suspect: "weird" high school outcast Kevin Young. Without a shred of evidence the teen was arrested, charged, and tried for the crime. His eventual acquittal didn't squelch the anger and outrage among those who believed that Kevin got away with murder.

With a fresh perspective and painstaking research, James Renner reconstructs the events leading up to and following that heartbreaking night. What emerges is a portrait of a community seething with dark undercurrents.

Who had the capacity for such unchecked violence? What monsters still lurk in the dark? After more than thirty years, questions like these continue to fester among the community of Shaker Heights, Ohio, still deeply scarred by wounds that remain hidden, unspoken, and unhealed.
