Summary

Freddie has passed the tests prescribed by Beautiful Dorothy of the Garden. Ruth has earned her wings in clashes with the Bloodbirds and the witch of the good Princess Laurel. Sir Fredrik and Ruchelle are charged with bringing back the young, witty one on their return. Members of the Guard, immune from the black plague, have forfeited their youth and past lives and donned the badge of the Guard—their gray eyes.

In Book 2, Gairfield is being inundated by the plague set upon the land and villagers. Mason and Sawyer are completing the construction of their ship, unaware of why it was being built. Other members of the Guard are charged with making plans to train and prepare the villagers to defend their beloved country from the horror that will follow the 1,000-year snow.

Freddie and Ruth have executed their plan to return to Gairfield, but without the young, witty one, and have carried two passengers across—K-Z the clown and Billy—who became Sir Willem the black knight, the leader of Princess Laurel’s army of mutants. Her eyes are set on extracting Sir Fredrik’s seed and giving birth to the heir of her evil kingdom and a new dark civilization. Sir Willem’s army of mutant clones, Rock and Roll, plus the new generation of Bloodbirds and Flatheads led by Peltast and Gormander are assembled to storm the village hall where they are engaged for five days of fun to destroy its inhabitants. Following a fierce battle, there is a showdown at Circles’ tree fortress. Will Rock and Roll never die?

Black Leather Nickie has made his grand appearance in Gairfield, where Nicolas awaits him, no longer gashing goodness. A Prince walks in the animal kingdom. Once in Gairfield, K-Z has found more than bananas in his clown suit. The Guard have recovered from the spell cast over them by the evil witch. Chance has paid a visit to the lost and found. The evil princess has made an appearance at the Great Feast, where Sir Fredrik is handed a black feather. Colt has faced his worst fear and has released the Water People from the Sea of Whispers. Rainbow, queen of the snow deer, has saved the day. Brighteyes has a secret. Miss Prinkle does more than teach. Beautiful Dorothy of the Garden works her own magic once more. Lilac tames Black Leather Nickie. Sir Fredrik and Sir Willem meet in a battle to the death.
