Hardy directs Frank and Joe to a house on the cliff, whose location overlooking Barmet Bay offers an excellent vantage point to watch for smugglers. Frank and Joe are tricked into the house by cries for help, and they get trapped in the attic. In the meanwhile, their father disappears and the things don't look god for the Hardy boys.
