Summary

The Fortune of the Rougons is a gripping novel by French author Emile Zola, set in the small town of Plassans in the late 19th century. The book tells the story of the Rougon family, a powerful and ambitious clan who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
At the center of the story is the patriarch of the family, Pierre Rougon, a ruthless businessman who will do whatever it takes to secure his family's wealth and power. He is aided by his wife, Félicité, who is equally determined to see her family rise to the top. Together, they scheme and manipulate their way to the top, leaving a trail of broken relationships and ruined lives in their wake.
As the novel progresses, we see the Rougons' fortunes rise and fall, as they navigate the treacherous waters of politics, business, and social status. Along the way, they must contend with rival families, jealous associates, and their own internal conflicts.
