Summary

The Pleasures of a Single Life, Or, The Miseries of Matrimony offers readers a vibrant exploration of the contrasting joys and tribulations surrounding the institution of marriage, and the alternatives that lay beyond its confines. Ranging from satirical poems to reflective essays, the collection weaves a tapestry of literary styles that probe the societal expectations and individual yearnings of the eighteenth century. This anthology deftly navigates themes of personal freedom, societal critique, and the perennial human quest for fulfillment, presenting a rich discourse on the dichotomy of marriage and bachelorhood that remains relevant to contemporary discussions. Contributing authors like Sir John Dillon and Edward Ward bring their unique voices to this inquiry, with backgrounds rooted deeply in the vibrant literary and cultural shifts of their time. By weaving together works reflective of the Enlightenment's burgeoning focus on individualism and personal happiness, this anthology taps into historical transitions away from rigid societal norms. The confluence of these authors' perspectives deepens the reader's insight into the cultural and literary currents that shaped their views on companionship, autonomy, and happiness. For readers eager to examine historical and literary perspectives on marriage through a sharply satirical lens, The Pleasures of a Single Life, Or, The Miseries of Matrimony provides a remarkable collection to delve into. This anthology captures the delightful tension and wit of its era, enriched by the diverse styles and insights of its contributors. It presents an invaluable opportunity to engage in a multifaceted conversation across history's pane, making it essential reading for those interested in personal freedoms and the complexities of human relationships.

It was pure serendipity that we went on an African safari, but we are forever grateful that we did. We combined a visit with my brother and sister-in-law, a doctor and nurse volunteering at a hospital in Uganda, with a safari to Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Enjoy hearing about what it was like to volunteer at a hospital in a small town in Southwestern Uganda and the excitement and adventure of trekking mountain gorillas in Rwanda, camel rides in the rugged northern frontier of Kenya, safaris in the magical "Green Hills" of Africa in Southeast Kenya, the lost world of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, the mysterious shifting sands of Tanzania, close encounters with wild animals on the Serengeti Plain, and the iconic Great Wildebeest Migration.

Meet the many different and interesting people we encountered on safari and learn about the fabulous eco-lodges we stayed at. Travel with us across East Africa in small planes and safari cars for the many wonderful experiences that made this the trip of a lifetime for us and our friends.

    Adios Paris. Hello Wolverhampton.

Not everything that glitters is gold - which is why Ben Aitken gave London the cold shoulder and went to Preston instead.

Hailing from Portsmouth, Ben knew from experience that unfashionable places could be quietly brilliant. So, over the course of a year, the author of A Chip Shop in Poznan and The Gran Tour visited twelve of the least popular spots in the UK and Ireland for a city break. The motivation wasn't to take the mickey or stick the boot in, but to seek out the good stuff, to uncover the gems, to have a nice time. By doing so, he hoped to demonstrate that anywhere - like anyone - can be interesting and nourishing and enjoyable if approached in the right fashion.

Ben went skiing in Sunderland, to the football in Wrexham, and fell in love with Dunfermline. He kissed an alpaca in Bradford, suffered jellied eels in Chelmsford, and had more craic in Limerick than was wise. The upshot is a celebration of the underdog; a love letter to the wrong direction; and evidence that there's no such thing as a shitty break. What's more, by spreading its affection beyond the usual suspects (which are often overdone and overpriced), Shitty Breaks promotes a less expensive and more sustainable brand of travel.

By ghosting Bath and giving Lisbon the boot, the book champions the unsung in an algorithmic, over-signposted world dominated by celebs and hotspots. Cheeky weekend in Milton Keynes anyone?

All dick is not the same! Some are long, and some are short. Some are skinny, some are girthy, some curve, and some have extra skin covering the head. I can repeatedly list countless differences we hear about through comedians, influencers, personalities, and radio and talk show hosts. You see women discussing it on various platforms, laughing to their heart’s content with their fellow sisters, and we, as men, accept this fact and what it means when it comes to our sex, but what about the reverse?
It seems no one talks about the different things that make up “good poon.” I mean, yes, there is the “smelly poon” remark that gets thrown around, and now and again, you’ll hear things about a “deep, loose poon” or a “roast beef poon,” but is that all it comes down to? Are you suddenly in the top 1% if you do not subscribe to those phrases?
I’m here to tell you no. Just like women, men too have talked about the size, the shape, the inside, and many more aspects that all go into what we consider to be “good poom poom,” and we’ve discussed it at length, behind closed doors, details of the feminine parts that never make its way to the town square. No man is loud enough, bold enough, or cares enough to sing the song of the thing that eats the thong, but I, Sherman T. Hancock, have sung!
So, I present to you the Opera of the Bell. Pull the feet of this book close to the edge of the bed, open its legs, lick your fingers and turn the pages, move that leaf to the side, and stick your face in it. I promise you will not stop reading until you have entirely uncovered the secrets hidden deep within this paprika in a bottle, pimento in a bowl, cum inside this capsicum, and discover the Bell Pepper.
