Synopsis

Master Flea: A Fairy-Tale in Seven Adventures of Two Friends is a humorous fairytale fantasy novel by E. T. A. Hoffmann first published in 1822. Set in the city of Frankfurt am Main, the novel follows the story of Peregrinus Tyss, who becomes entangled in the conflict between supernatural characters in bourgeois form over Dörtje Elverdink, in reality Princess Gamaheh of Famagusta.

Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann (24 January 1776 – 25 June 1822) was a German Romantic author of fantasy and Gothic horror, a jurist, composer, music critic and artist.
His stories form the basis of Jacques Offenbach's opera The Tales of Hoffmann, in which Hoffmann appears (heavily fictionalized) as the hero. He is also the author of the novella The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, on which Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker is based. The ballet Coppélia is based on two other stories that Hoffmann wrote, while Schumann's Kreisleriana is based on Hoffmann's character Johannes Kreisler.

The audiobook of Tim Key's least ambitious project to date. A slim book of the crap he’s been churning out over the past eighteen months.
Poems about men getting stuck in webs, poems about the ancient city of Canterbury, poems about canoodling with a rose.
A prolific sod, he’s selected ninety of his trademark vignettes and packed them off to Emily Juniper for her to fling onto pages and shape into a book.
Discussions ensued about what, if anything, the point of it all was, and a healthy debate as to whether it should be broken up into chapters and, if so, why. All of these discussions are documented in the leftover space around the poems. The result is a splurge of words which very occasionally shine a light on modern times.
It is the third book Tim and Emily have generated together.

An irresistible comedy about faith, desire, and middle-class morality from the man described by Kingsley Amis as “the funniest serious writer to be found on either side of the Atlantic” Pity the poor reverend Andrew Mackerel of the People’s Liberal Church of Avalon, Connecticut. His is the first split-level church in America, a bastion of modern thought and sophisticated virtue, yet even his prosperous parishioners are not immune to the backsliding evangelism infecting other parts of the country. One misguided congregant wants to sing hymns to hospital patients. Another goes so far as to put up a billboard with the message “Jesus Saves” written in phosphorescent green-and-orange letters. How is Mackerel supposed to write sermons with a vulgarity like that staring him in the face? Worse yet, the recently widowed pastor has fallen in love with Molly Calico, a former actress turned city hall clerk, well before the church is ready to stop mourning Mackerel’s saintly wife. Plans are under way for a shopping mall and memorial plaza commemorating the dear departed, and Mackerel must go to ever-greater lengths to keep his new romance a secret and his new paramour happy. Meanwhile, it is becoming clear that his devoted sister-in-law, Hester, has plans of her own when it comes to the reverend’s matrimonial future. As Mackerel twists and turns to get what he wants and avoid what he does not, the plot of this rollicking portrait of suburban piety kicks into high—and hilarious—gear.

Tom is a bit of a waster...
Turning the wrong side of thirty hit him pretty hard, and what with having no money, no love life, no decent job prospects to speak of, and with debt coming out of his ears, well, the future wasn’t exactly looking too rosy.
Still, he’s a likeable chap, is Tom. He’s the first person you'd invite to your party and likely the last one to leave. A little bit of your sensible side probably secretly wishes you were a bit more like Tom, actually.
Tom knew he wanted more out of life and now was the right time to make a fresh start, but, in typical fashion, he didn't have a plan or even the faintest idea of where to begin. So, logically, he'd start by quitting his current job and see what turned up in the process!
What he didn’t count on was his future plans involving a washed-up, failed pop star or, for that matter, an ageing gangster. But that’s exactly the sort of thing that happens when you live your life on the flip of a coin.
It was going to be a tough journey for Tom and if it didn’t work out, well, he didn’t give two hoots either way, right? He’d just start again and find another credit card company foolish enough to fund his life for a few more months.
A hilarious story about doing something a little crazy and, after all, what’s the worst that could happen?

Laugh with political humorist Gerald Gardner, as he takes an entertaining and probing look at how six American Presidents over three decades— John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan— deliberately and effectively employed humor to achieve their political goals. In a special live recording of his best-selling book, Gardner sounds remarkably like JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan, as he demonstrates how our Chief Executives have made strategic use of humor to win people over, to avoid sensitive issues, to defuse tense situations, and to deflect criticism. From the elegant wit of Kennedy to the genial joking of Reagan, you'll hear an insider's insights about the increasingly influential role humor plays in the political arena.
