We learn about life through the lives of others. Their experiences, their trials, their adventures become our schools, our chapels, our playgrounds. Christian Encounters, a series of biographies from Thomas Nelson Publishers, highlights important lives from all ages and areas of the Church through prose as accessible and concise as it is personal and engaging. Some are familiar faces. Others are unexpected guests. Whether the person is Galileo, William F. Buckley, John Bunyan, or Isaac Newton, we are now living in the world that they created and understand both it and ourselves better in the light of their lives. Their relationships, struggles, prayers, and desires uniquely illuminate our shared experience.
HERO OR HERETIC? GENIUS OR BLASPHEMER?
It's no mystery how profound a role Galileo played in the Scientific Revolution. Less explored is the Italian innovator's sincere, guiding faith in God. In this exhaustively researched biography that reads like a page-turning novel, Mitch Stokes draws on his expertise in philosophy, logic, math, and science to attune modern ears with Galileo's controversial genius.
Emerging from the same Florentine milieu that produced Dante, da Vinci, Machiavelli, Michelangelo, Amerigo Vespuci, Galileo questioned with a persistence that spurred his world toward an unabating era of discovery. Stokes confronts the myth that Galileo's stance on heliocentricity stood astride a church vs. science divide and explores his calculations for the dimensions of Dante's hell, his understanding of motion, and his invention of the pendulum clock.
To read this volume is to journey through Galileo's remarkable life: from his inquisitive childhood to his dying days, when, although blind and decrepit, he soldiered on, dictating mathematical thoughts and mentoring young proteges.

Billy boarded the train to Minneapolis. He had come to Los Angeles months before as a small-time preacher. Now he was leaving as one of the most recognized Christians in the country. It was not what Billy had sought; he'd just been open for God to use. Billy wondered if this would be the peak of his fame or if something bigger was about to happen. The oldest son of dairy farmers from Charlotte, North Carolina, young Billy Graham (1918-) attended evangelical revival meetings that inspired him for the rest of his life. As an ordained minister, he rose to prominence and would subsequently preach the Christian message to over 200 million people in 185 countries. Graham championed civil rights, befriended US politicians and presidents, and traveled the world to places no one else dared to go. His life and ministry have shaped the spiritual life of America and offer hope for the future -- inspiring new generations of leaders willing to serve with courage, integrity, and vision.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) never signed a painting, and none of his supposed self-portraits can be securely ascribed to his hand. He revealed next to nothing about his life in his extensive writings, yet countless pages have been written about him that assign him an identity: genius, entrepreneur, celebrity artist, outsider. Addressing the ethical stakes involved in studying past lives, Stephen J. Campbell shows how this invented Leonardo has invited speculation from figures ranging from art dealers and curators to scholars, scientists, and biographers, many of whom have filled in the gaps of what can be known of Leonardo's life with claims to decode secrets, reveal mysteries of a vanished past, or discover lost masterpieces of spectacular value.

In this original and provocative book, Campbell examines the strangeness of Leonardo's words and works, and the distinctive premodern world of artisans and thinkers from which he emerged. By investigating the politics and cultural tensions of the era as well as the most recent scholarship on Leonardo's contemporaries, workshop, and writings, Campbell places Leonardo back into the milieu that shaped him and was shaped by him. He shows that it is in the gaps and contradictions of what we know of Leonardo's life that a less familiar and far more historically significant figure appears.

Love’s Journey can be best described as a cross between a spoken word album and an audio book that combines poetry with emotional story telling. It’s more than a collection of poems about love put together. Poems written over a two-decade period organically come together to form a narrative of their own to reveal emotions as the true protagonist of this audio book. The commentaries for each poem help the story to unfold before your ears. They reveal some of the story behind the poems without giving away too much. They also provide clues to help solve some of the mysteries behind the events that inspired such deep emotions. Some mysteries presented are solvable while others aren’t and retain the book’s overall intrigue.
Love’s Journey tells the emotional story of my experiences with love in its various facets over the years in the form of poetry. Romantic love and heartbreak are recurring themes for most of the poems, but there are other forms of love included as well. Why write about these experiences in the form of poetry? Our individual experiences and circumstances may be something that not everyone can relate to. But emotions are universal! We all have them. My poetry is a way that I can emotionally connect with others, especially those with different life experiences. Feel your own emotions in my poetry and connect my words with your own personal experiences with love.
Each poem is enjoyable on its own, but the greatest reward is to be had when viewing them as an episode of a series from my real-life experiences. Listening to Love’s Journey more than once is required to unravel the love mystery that develops from the questions you will naturally ask yourself as you listen to it. You may even learn something from my journey that will benefit you on your very own journey of love. Take notes as you listen and compare them with the provided commentary as you embark on Love’s Journey!
