Summary

The Plumed Serpent D. H. Lawrence - Lawrence wrote The Plumed Serpent between 1923 to 1924 a time when he was in ill health, living in Mexico and becoming dependent on his wife Frieda. The plot revolves around a movement to replace the Christian God with the old pre-conquest gods, such as Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent of the title. Kate Leslie, an Irish woman, gets caught up in the movement and marries one of the leaders but to the very end of the novel is ambivalent towards the aims of the movement. Lawrence uses the story to propound his own views about religion and the need for woman to sublimate herself before man and the need for a new political order. This all seems deliciously old-fashioned and misplaced now but we forgive Lawrence because of the beauty of his writing and his ability to get beneath the surface of the country he describes.

In the time it takes you to read this, another twenty Americans will turn sixty-five. Ten thousand people a day are crossing that threshold, and that number will continue to grow. In fifteen years, Americans aged sixty-five and over will outnumber those under age eighteen. This change is coming: Nearly everywhere in the world, people over sixty will become the dominant population.

Demographers tend to pose the new longevity as a crisis we are not prepared for. And there are serious issues to address in order to serve this population, and society as a whole.

But longevity also presents an opportunity for which companies need to develop a strategy. Estimates put the global market for this demographic at $21 trillion across every industry you can think of: entertainment, travel, education, healthcare, housing, transportation, consumer goods and services, product design, and financial services will all benefit if they can figure out a way to serve this market.

Stage (Not Age) is the concise guide to helping companies understand and serve this burgeoning market by focusing on life stage, not age, and identifying the deep diversity of needs within the demographic. It will reset your understanding of what an "old person" is, help identify the systemic barriers to entering the market, and outline ways to overcome them. Best practices of companies that have successfully shifted strategies to reflect the new demographics will show how success can be achieved.

The Financial Advisor’s Definitive Guide to Niche Marketing

In Uncomparable, veteran financial services marketing consultant Kristen Luke challenges the traditional concept of striving to be the best financial advisor in the industry. Instead, encourages financial advisors to become "uncomparable" by owning a niche and establishing themselves as an expert in solving one problem for one type of client. In this book, Luke argues that being "better" than the competition is not enough because you can be surpassed by other financial advisors who add just one additional service or implement a slightly superior approach.

In contrast, by positioning yourself as unique and focusing on developing and promoting your expertise to a narrow set of clients, you become uncomparable and stand out as a leader in your space.

This book offers practical advice to help you identify your niche and build your marketing strategy to attract your ideal clientele. With a refreshing perspective on business differentiation and actionable steps for standing out in a crowded marketplace, Uncomparable will allow you to find your path to marketing success.
