Summary

This tale of two Iowa brothers trying to escape the long shadow of their notorious father is “an almost impossible book to put down” (The Plain Dealer).

This gripping novel tells the tale of the Easter family of Ontarion, Iowa. Ansel Easter was a favored minister until he rescued a grotesque creature from a carnival sideshow. His sons, C and Sam, suffer in the shadow of their outcast father until his violent death. C and Sam leave the home their father built for a new beginning, and find fortune building a lucrative business called the Associates—but when a rash of deaths has the townspeople looking at C and Sam as suspects, they find their father’s legacy reaches further than they expect.

Taut, dark, and engrossing, The Easter House is a brilliant work of fiction by the acclaimed author of Driftless and Jewelweed.

“David Rhodes’s writing is smooth and wry, combining Richard Russo’s genius for the details of small-town thinking and Flannery O’Connor’s flair for shading things toward the weird side of normal.” —Mpls.St. Paul Magazine

Welcome to Icon audiobooks at their most terrifying, Provocative and mysterious. Here is a classic audiobook which reaches across the waters of time deep to the inner recesses of the darkest corners of the human mind. Whether or not these are truly horror stories depends on the always fragile state of mind of the attentive listener, But they are dark, often foreboding, and delightfully full of dread. Perhaps more than pure horror they are rather cautionary tales displaying the depths of nameless immortality, criminality and insanity which has plauged humankind from time immemorial. Or perhaps they are something more - a frightening window into the dark unknown, the otherworldly, and truly evil. One thing for sure however, this jarring, well crafted tale of desperation, death, violence and deparvity has the power to rattle the expectant listener to the very core as well as opening doors which might better stay closed taking us upon roads which should not be thoughtlessly travelled, and alleyways to misadventure which wander off into the weeds of self doubt and numbing isolation. Still, the silent pull to take this unexpected trek into the unknown is strong may well lead you into a room full of mirrors where you might not like all that you see... but don’t worry friends, I’ll be with you every step of the way! Presented by actor author, Geoffrey Giuliano For everyone interested in the cultural significance of classical horror literature here is a once in a lifetime, must have audio event.
