In the Introduction to Camping and Woodcraft, Horace Kephart wrote: “My one aim in writing this little book is to make it of practical service to those who seek rest or sport in the wilderness, or whose business calls them thither.” The author further described the content of this audiobook: “In the following chapters I offer some suggestions on outfitting, making camps, dressing and keeping game and fish, camp cookery, forest travel, how to avoid getting lost, and what to do if one does get lost, living off the country, what the different species of trees are good for (from a camper's viewpoint), backwoods handicrafts in wood, bark, skins and other raw materials, the treatment of wounds and other injuries, and some other branches of woodcraft that may be of service when one is far from shops and from hired help.” Camping and Woodcraft was his first book and is actually a collection of articles that had been published in Field and Stream magazine.
Horace Kephart, born in 1862, was raised in Pennsylvania and Iowa then trained as a librarian at Cornell University. The art of downsizing is getting to the point where you have just enough; a point of sufficiency and satisfaction. This book focuses on the emotional side of downsizing. It is not about the practicalities of sorting and selling and donating, but how it feels to do all that, to get rid of your children’s favorite toys, even if your children now are forty years old with their own children. How it feels to discard years’ worth of pictures of family vacations, holidays, celebrations. The disappointment and disbelief when those things you’ve been saving “for the children” are not wanted by them.
Sara holds nothing back as she talks about her pain and sadness and exhaustion. She also shares her sense of relief and of lightness as she gets closer to realizing she has just enough; that all the stuff is completely unnecessary for her sense of sufficiency and of joy. As you read about her emotional journey, you will know you’re not alone during yours. You will find Sara a caring, light-hearted, funny companion along the way, offering helpful hints on how to communicate effectively with Real Estate Agents, Professional Downsizers, Stagers, friends, and family. She offers sage advice about taking care of yourself during the process and understanding what “getting to enough” means and how it can be so helpful to you.

The acclaimed artist and architect shares a strolling, personal tour of a city that has become his creative muse and home away from home.   Over the years, Danish architect and artist Mikael Olrik has developed a special relationship with New York City, finding endless inspiration in the vibrant and ever-changing metropolis. In Walks in My New York, Olrik shares his fascinating perspective on New York life through a combination of watercolor, photography and text.   Olrik explores the city with the broad view of an architect, the specificity of an artist, the straight-forwardness of a photographer, and the companionable text of a diarist. He captures everything from street scenes of everyday life to pastoral views of Central Park and landmarks such as the Empire State Building and the Brooklyn Bridge. Small maps accompany each entry and act as a sort of ‘GPS’ in print.
