Summary

A striking version of Chekhov's classic play by Charlotte Pyke, John Kerr and Joseph Blatchley, restoring to the play the cuts demanded by the Russian censor in 1896.
In nineteenth-century rural Russia, an anxious young writer prepares the first performance of his new play for the two women in his life. The consequences are devastating, with everybody in love with the wrong person, and death hovering close by.
Through both comedy and tragedy, Seagull explores lives that are precariously balanced between love and indifference, success and failure, hope and despair.
This version of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull was first performed at the Arcola Theatre, London, in 2011.
'absorbingly vibrant - a Seagull that soars.' - The Times
'wonderfully nimble... the play feels fresh and vital... full of warmth and wit' - Stage
'new translation brings an immediacy and a vibrancy to the play that does it a world of good' - Whatsonstage.com
Available since: 03/28/2020.
Print length: 88 pages.

Poems exploring our most fragile points of connection to lovers and family, to the living and the dead, and to oneself, one's own life's work--with the care and wisdom of one who knows these roads.'Silently / pulling for itself, / the will wants the body to // give it what it wants,' Sexton writes in 'Between the Car and the Sea,' at once a description of a carís body propelling her onward, and of the poet herself, the one behind the wheel of this masterful fourth collection. In an extraordinary act of volition, the author does not stop at the trope of ambition, but powers instead toward the urgent concerns of the will, and intention.

Conor McPherson is one of the leading figures in Irish contemporary drama. His look at life in a village pub, The Weir, was premiered in Dublin and then ran for over a year in the West End and Broadway. Port Authority was his next play. Three Dublin men of differing ages simply telling their stories to the audience. It is a spare document, but the wit, insight and pathos so skilfully woven by this major dramatist makes it unforgettable. A major recording premiere. Contains adult subject matter and explicit language.

Life sucks! How did we end up like this? What am I doing here anyway? Nothing ever changes! This is a collection of poems that explore the hard questions...this is a collection of ideas that were born in suffering. Yes, this a challenging read...yet, in the end, there is also inspiration and hope to be found here. Recommended for anyone who finds themselves walking through a dark valley in their lives.
