Sinossi

Just as Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book reworked Kipling's The Jungle Book for a modern audience with a liking for the supernatural, Devilskein & Dearlove is a darker, more edgy, contemporary reworking of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic The Secret Garden. An orphaned teenager is taken in by a reluctant distant relative, and in her new home makes an unexpected friend and finds a secret realm. It has shades of the quirky fantastical in the style of Miyazaki's (Studio Ghibli) animated films like Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle (originally a novel by Diana Wynne Jones).

Alex says "As a child The Secret Garden was one of my first favourite novels - one of the first I relished reading by myself. Although Devilskein & Dearlove is very different, it was inspired by that novel and its themes."

"Alex Smith's quirky imagination knows no bounds." - André Brink

Cora Staunton is an elite sportswoman: winner of four All-Irelands, 11 All-Stars and five Club All-Irelands. She is  a trailblazer in the Australian Football League, and a hero in her native Mayo for her gaelic football skills. But it's been a long and eventful road for Cora. When she was young, she was small for her age, and had to prove herself at every level: to the boys in her club, to the Mayo selectors who took a chance on her as a teenager, but most importantly to herself. From Croke Park to the stadiums of Sydney, Cora has proved herself to be a master of the game.
This is the story of how a young football-mad girl became a living legend. A story of female empowerment for younger readers.

Young readers can easily perceive the message that being different can mean greatness. --Foreword MagazineShe has done a superb job of making this traditional story both educational and entertaining. The book is a fine introduction to Native American folklore and traditions for both the youngsters it is intended for and their parents. For certain, this gently amusing book will appeal to horselovers of all ages. --Blue Iris JournalWhen European settlers reintroduced the horse to the western landscape, the Plains Indians soon adopted this wondrous creature. Horses were an important part of their nomadic existence and inspired many Native American myths. The greatest of these was Sunka Wakan, the blue-eyed spotted stallion who possessed great powers. Linda Little Wolf presents the legend of Sunka Wakan, the Great Spirit Horse, as an exciting tale of life on the Great Plains, retold especially for young readers. Great Spirit Horse is available as a collectible model from Breyer Animal Creations.
