Beschreibung

In "The Fighter," Albert Payson Terhune crafts a compelling narrative that explores the indomitable spirit of a boxer grappling with personal and societal challenges. Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century America, the novel is rich in vivid descriptions and dynamic dialogue, showcasing Terhune'Äôs deft handling of character development and plot pacing. The story encapsulates the era's cultural engagement with themes of masculinity, resilience, and the moral complexities of sport, making it a significant piece in the canon of American literature of its time, reflecting the struggles between aspiration and adversity faced by individuals in a rapidly changing society. Albert Payson Terhune, known for his love of dogs and outdoor adventure, infused his writing with the same vigor and enthusiasm that characterized his life. His background in journalism and his penchant for storytelling were instrumental in shaping "The Fighter," as the author sought to delve into the psychological dimensions of his protagonist. Terhune's experiences with various social classes also provided him with a unique perspective on the struggles faced by athletes, which resonates throughout the narrative. I highly recommend "The Fighter" to readers interested in classic American literature, sports narratives, and psychological explorations of self-worth. It not only offers an exciting storyline but also presents profound reflections on the human condition, making it a timeless read that remains relevant today.

With a fierce love for the climb and incredible natural talent, Sasha soon won her first National Sport Climbing Championship at only seventeen, and a year later took the title of World Champion. To her fans, it looked like Sasha was on top of the world. The bestselling author of 80/20 Running and How Bad Do You Want It?
reveals his inspiring and surprising journey to see just how fast he can go.

Matt Fitzgerald has been running (and writing about running) for most of his
adult life. But, like many passionate amateur runners, he never felt he was quite
fulfilling his potential. If he follows the training, nutrition, and lifestyle of an elite
runner, just how fast could he go?

In his mid-forties, Matt at last has the freedom to do nothing but train, if only
for the span of one summer. The time is now. He convinces the coach of Northern
Arizona Elite, one of the country’s premier professional running teams, to let him
train with a roster of national champions and Olympic hopefuls in the running
mecca of Flagstaff, Arizona, leading into the Chicago Marathon. The results will
completely redefine Matt’s notion of what is possible, not only for himself but for
    any runner.

Filled with a vibrant cast of characters, rigorous and quad-torching training,
and a large dose of self-deprecating humor, Matt’s gripping account of his “fake
pro-runner” experience allows us to partake in the dream of having the chance to go
all the way. Yet for the gifted young runners Matt trains with, it’s not a dream but
concrete reality, and their individual stories enrich this inspiring narrative.

Running the Dream pulls us into the rarified world of professional running in
a way we can all relate to, regardless of speed, and inspires us to try to achieve our
    own potential.

Robert Craig Knievel (October 17, 1938 - November 30, 2007), known as Evel Knievel, was an American stunt performer and entertainer, born in Butte, Montana. Throughout his career, he attempted more than 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps. Knievel's most famous stunts include a 1967 jump over the fountains at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, which infamously resulted in severe injuries, and a September 8, 1974, attempt to jump across the Snake River Canyon in Idaho using a rocket-powered cycle called the Skycycle X-2. The jump failed after the parachute deployed prematurely, but Knievel survived with minor injuries. The following recordings are from interviews in 1970, 1972, 1974, and in 1975 after Knievel jumped 14 Greyhound buses.
